PBEM - Episode 471. Second Horde

Hit points whittling away! hang on!!

FOUR HUNDRED SEVENTY ONE

(I/C)

Abraxas could hear the approaching 2nd wave coming out of the gloom and noted that the undead had achieved a toe hold on the wrong side of the cabinet. He redoubled his efforts, the lone Fighter covered in gore and filth, a pile of undead bodies at his feet up to his knees, holding off the revenants with skill, steel, and will (=+8 to hit, Blue 4), slamming his weapon out two, three, four times in rapid succession as he took down another stalker (1d8+4 Damage, Blue 7+4=11 and killed!!). Rotating his arms he gave a deep sigh and looked out. “Senors y senoras, brace your selves.”

Wiping the sweat from his forehead, Kovid lashed out hard at the undead that had pushed him back from the barrier (>+6 to hit, Yellow 9), his hammer crushing bone and splattering scale. “Lady Lyra,” he called to the Cleric (1d8+3 Damage, Yellow 4+3=7 Damage!), “any holy hocus you could throw my way? I’m feeling a little beat up.”

“Sorry Kovid!” She apologized, trying to get back to the battle front (>+4 to hit, White 3), but her blows were getting a bit erratic as she was fatiguing. “I’m fresh out of healing for the time I think. Anyone got a potion to spare?”

“None right now,” Brendon said, sword unsheathing as he plowed into the undead on the floor by Lyra. “Lass, care to share the wine?”

“And I’ll get that wine out as soon as we take out the rest of these, Brendon. I got half a bottle of wine with our name on it.”

“Fantastic!” He glanced at the Wizard who was flanking the same undead he was fighting with his own staff. “Lannis how about some levity; a joke or a pun to shake up our moral?

"I think...I think I might be out of jokes.” He swung hard (>+1 to hit, Pink 17), cracking the revenant on the back of the skull. “You are a...boat...man. I got nothing, these undead are really ruining my day." (1d6 Damage, Pink 2)

“Thanks for the help,” the Cleric said, keeping the undead’s attention on her as Brendon struck it on the other side (>+4 to hit, Red 10)

"You are a horse...damn! Nothing." Ignoring the wizard, Brendon buried his blade into the shambler’s skull and ripped out the back of its spine (1d6+1 Damage, Red 5+1=6 Damage and killed!), dropping it in its place and removing one of the undead from our side of the cabinet.

“Iffin any of ye need a break, let Wyn know en he will step in for a few rounds!” The elf offered, pot shotting the wounded one on top of the barrier that already had an arrow in it from the Scout last round (>+8 to hit, Orange 15), catching it in the chest and stilling its undead heart (1d6 Damage, Orange 5 and killed!!). “Just doing clean up, mes amis!”

(Initiative Party Steel 1 vs Undead Red/Black 3).

The one remaining on top of the barrier dropped down to fill the space in front of Lyra and another one from behind climbed up top. Abraxas easily held off the next assaulter (<+2 to hit, Black 10) with the spinning end of his Scythe’s shaft. Lyra had a closer encounter (<+2 to hit, Black 14 – missed by 1!) as the revenant that dropped down also grabbed her by the hair and was looking to gnaw on the side of her neck, but she managed to beat it’s grip free with the rim of her shield and whipped her hair back Flail leading the way.

Kovid was still having a rough time with the one by him and the dwarf was struck again (>+2 to hit, Green 18) by the scaled pummeling fists of the undead Salamander her was fighting (1d6 no 1, Yellow 3 – Take 3 Damage!), further bruising the dwarf.

Brendon though was too close to the battle at the fresh one on top of the cabinet did get the Scout hard on his upper thigh (>+2 to hit, White 18), drawing some blood and making him stagger on his perch on top of the brazier (1d6 no 1, White 1 – 2. Take 2 Damage!).

And the second wave hit. The scrabbled and gibbered and wailed and gnashed, the weight burying some of the fallen under the trampling feet, hitting the cabinet hard enough to rock it (Combative Str: Blue 1 (under 17 – damn, best roll!, -2 penalty static brazier – Under 15) vs White 10 (Under 3 +2, +2, +2 = Under 9)) but the barrier held with only Abraxas anchoring one end of it, the opposite side jammed into the wall, and only Brendon on his brazier offering any weight in the center. “Holy shit!” the Scout swore. “One of you, get your asses up here and hold this cabinet. Another push like that and we’re over run!”

Time now is Day 10, 3:54 PM

(OOC)

2nd wave adds 10 – which means another round of weight pressing Str checks – pretty much the best roll possible is what save it at this time, but unless you can kill off 2 on the otherside of the barrier, on the next round, there will be another combative str check – and Kovid and/or Lyra should be in place to help hold it here – or the lynchpin might fall. 2 undead on our side of the barrier and one 1 on top for now. Getting desperate here. You guys go.
