PBEM - Episode 467. Second Horde

Like flattening the curve does for covid, the party also did what they could to arrange not to be overwhelmed by the almost 60 undead. However this block of revenants hit all at once and the group was going to be hard pressed to take care of it before the 2nd batch hits in 2 or 3 rounds.

Follows:

FOUR HUNDRED SIXTY SEVEN

(I/C)

"Yo trust en mis amigos,” Abraxas said, Scythe back to swing, but looking around at the group first. “Finish ese Undead y yo will build up el barricade.”

“TWANG!”

Wyn shot an arrow at the one armed revenant threatening the Fighter (>+8 to hit, Orange 8), slamming it into the creature’s chest (1d6 Damage, Orange 5 and killed!!) and pitching it back. “Just tryin to clear de field up fer ye, Salazar,” he said with a grin, readying another arrow.

“Gracias!” He waved back, turning to grab the nearest dead body. “We can stack the muertes on el cabinet y en el otro side. Make a real show de mierda por anyone trying a caminais aqui.”

Looking to help, Kovid backed up and went to grab another dead one near him, nodding to Abraxas. “Were staying I guess.”

“Yes indeedy,” Lannis affirmed, holding his staff as far back as he could and swung deep (<+1 to hit, Pink 4), keeping the undead back but not really hitting it. "When we get back I'm going to research the forward flow of time, find a way to make it faster, because this is taking all his damn day. A spell to make time to forward fast... I'll call it timey speedy upper."

“If the hobgoblins don’t come investigating after all this noise,” Lyra muttered, hitting at the last revenant hampered by the wizard’s staff swinging (>+4 to hit, White 11), “I’m going to be surprised.” She just about tore its head off (1d6+2 Damage, White 6+2=8 Damage and killed!!!) on her second swing, putting it down for good. “This whole thing is a terrible idea.”

“You were a terrible idea,” the magic user retorted.

Hoisting high, Abraxas shoved the undead on top of the cabinet with a wet schlorking sound. “Y si el Undead get stuck against el Cabinet, perhaps we can poke them para aqui con los Spears tengo en el Bag of Holding.”

“Good idea about the spear, Doc.” Brendon nodded, taking his own spear out before picking up the brazier and crab walking it closer to the back of the cabinet, shoving it in place with a metallic clang. Kovid was joining the Fighter (Str check each: <Yellow 6…<Blue 3 – both successful – 2nd body each) in piling his dead on top of the cabinet, but with the horde just about on them, each of them had no time left. So with a grab, hoist, and swing, Abraxas and Kovid each plopped a third and forth corpse on top of the cabinet before lining up at the barrier, weapons ready, feet braced, and eyes wide.

“Stand ready…,” Kovid intoned. “Oh, Lady Lyra, please after you,” he offered.

She was at the opposite end of the cabinet, weapon up and prepared. “I’m good.”

With the brazier in place, it was going to be difficult for Brendon or Lannis to engage in melee and would have to wait for the undead to most likely cross over the barricade before they could properly strike.

The mass of undead hit the barricade like a freight train, moaning, wailing, and reaching (Combative str check: Group Blue 10 vs enemy Black 17 (Over base 4 – lost), but the barricade held.

(Initiative: Party Steel 4 vs Undead Red/Black 5)

The closest to the gap reached out to assault the Fighter (<+2 to hit, White 7), scrabbling at his armor and clothes but failing to get a grip or anything more hurtful to Abraxas. The narrow space and press of bodies made any other potential attacks just out of reach, but reach they still tried to do.

As for Lyra and Kovid, they stood ready, weapon up but were pleased to see the number of already dead on the floor and the bodies on the cabinet were hampering the possible approach of any others and only two were able to get high enough to risk bringing an assault against them. But the exercise took so long, they couldn’t line up for a swing or attack in time before the cleric and dwarf were already in place to attack back.

Time now is Day 10, 3:50 PM

(OOC)

Bodies on top and amount on the ground slowed them down (difficult terrain) enough that all they could do was climb up, no attack this round – next. Two on deck behind them. Brendon and Lannis, you cannot melee attack from where you are unless one of you either climbs into the brazier, or wait for the undead to force their way over and down on the other side of the cabinet. Missile only. The sheer amount of them will have a “shove” roll at the start of each combat round to see if they push the barrier back at all, until their press numbers fall below 10. Bottom of Horde round 1 – you guys go.
