PBEM - Episode 468. Second Horde

FOUR HUNDRED SIXTY EIGHT

(I/C)

"How's it looking, amigos?" The Fighter asked, shoulder at the wall, stance wide, far foot braced against the cabinet, using his entire body to keep the undead from pouring into the room.

“Getting into position, Doc.” Brendon looked in the brazier, seeing only a thin layer of ash and wood chars on the bottom. Slinging his bow up over his shoulder, he took a tighter grip on his sword and placed one foot in the brazier, bracing the other on the back end, and joined Lyra and Kovid at the front line by the cabinet. “I’ve often wondered,” he mused while working swiftly, “how fast it takes for something dead to become a walking dead. Is there a set number of hours or days and what are they craving? Is it blood, the ripping of flesh, or are they on some subconscious level trying to increase their numbers?” He gave a stab and swing at the closest up top, getting into the rhythm with the Cleric and dwarf. “If it’s to increase their numbers, than that might indicate some level of intelligence.”

Abraxas worked the Morrigaan Scythe at the closest revenant, the enchanted weapon parting flesh (>+8 to hit, Blue 10) with general ease (1d8+4 Damage, Blue 1+4=5 Damage). The undead snarled at him, holding the end of the weapon as far as it could to avoid being slain, but was getting cut pretty fiercely doing it.

“Definitely not intelligent.” The Cleric took her attacks at the closest revenant on the cabinet (>+4 to hit, White 14), hitting hard enough to break bone. “Just mindless walking husks with a grudge for anything that has a heartbeat.” (1d6+2 Damage, White 5+2=7 Damage) It staggered under the assault and was in danger of falling over as it’s left leg and pelvic bone were crushed.

Lannis, who had been moving into position behind Abraxas, staff still out, turned back to Lyra and complained, "I'm standing right here."

The dwarf plied the Theystran Hammer at the female goblin that was snarling at him, kicking and reaching for the dwarf with gnarled bloodied hands (>+6 to hit, Yellow 14). “So many undead,” he noted with a smile (1d8+3 damage, Yellow 3+3=6 Damage!), “It’s making me thirsty for ale!”

Thrusting at the one that Lyra had badly wounded, Brendon shoved the enchanted short sword through its midsection and up into its ribcage (=+4 to hit, Red 8), making it slump forward (1d6+1 Damage, Red 2+1=3 Damage and killed!!!) where the Scout guided it to the already dead strewn floor. “An ale always sounds good, Lil Man.”

Shifting over to a spell instead, Lannis chated quickly, working the magic as he responded to Brendon’s earlier question. "I’ve given it some thought, and to be totally honest I failed necromancy...twice. I think the formula was something like rage over unfinished business, to the power of magic, multiply by 100 to get a percentage chance of rising from the grave, with a 1% increasing chance per year. Add 10% if in a cursed or unconsecrated location. IN BET GRAV!" (Dart 1d4: Pink 4 and killed!) The Revenant Abraxas had hit blew backwards as the enchanted missile tore out its midsection, killing it.

Leaving just Wyn to load up another arrow and let it fly at the last local one that was fighting Kovid. “SHOOOTT HEEERRR!!!” He cried out (>+8 to hit, Orange 13), the arrow punching her in the face (1d6 Damage, Orange 5 and killed!) and knocking her back into the crowd.

“I think you did, Senor Schwinn,” Abraxas noted.

(Initiative 5 vs 5, reroll, Party Steel 4 vs Undead Red/Black 1)

(Combative Str check: Group Blue 6 (under 12, +2, +2=Under 16) vs enemy Black 14 (Over base 1 – lost, no further check))

Time now is Day 10, 3:51 PM

(OOC)

3 more down, no one missed. Great job! And you have back to back initiative. There are NO undead currently on top of the barrier, just letting you know. You have a feeling the 2nd part of the Horde will be here in 3 rounds – these are the ones that are somewhat beaten up due to bad wounds or broken bones, or are missing a foot (they move 60/20). Just a heads up. Lannis, you have 1 more cantrip, and 2 2nd levels remaining.
