PBEM - Episode 462. Making a stand

FOUR HUNDRED SIXTY TWO

(I/C)

Readying another spell, Lannis gave a nervous laugh and said, “This doesn’t seem so bad.”

Swinging happily at the pressing undead funneling through the gap by the cabinet, Abraxas agreed, “Si! Re-Dead el Undead, amigos!” (>+8 to hit, Blue 14) The Scythe tore through the revenant , hooking it closer where the Fighter proceeded to smash it against the wall, following up with a finishing blow from the back end to the weapon (1d8+4 Damage, Blue 4+4=8 and killed!!), ending it. “Re-Dead el Undead!"

Lining up his own blows, Kovid called out to Wyn, “Hear anything, elf friend?” (>+6 to hit, Yellow 12).

“Non, dwarffriend,” Wyn replied, loading up another arrow. “I’ll keep my ear out.”

“Terrific!” (1d8+3 Damage, Yellow 5+3=8 and killed!) His hammer reached across the cabinet, beating the undead that was trying to clamber over to pieces, slamming it to the floor. “No sense getting pinned if we have a way out now.”

“This is... strangely going well.” Lyra followed suit, holding her place at the front, Flail cracking out after a series of speeding wind ups (>+4 to hit, White 20 – Critical, Max damage: 6+2=8 and killed!), crushing the undead’s skull to pulp and knocking it off its feet. “I don’t buy it.”

Readying another arrow, Brendon was upbeat and positive. “No! This is working! Let’s keep going!” (<+6 to hit, Red 4) His arrow fired and hit, but it hung in the next revenant’s chest hollowly, missing anything vital.

“Yeah!” Wyn smiled, shooting at the same one (<+8 to hit, Orange 1 – Fumble, Heartswood bow reroll – >Orange 6). The arrow seemed to wobble in the air before slamming out and hitting the revenant in the throat (1d6 Damage, Orange 6). “Boom.”

“I think we can take them,” Lannis said, firing off another Dart spell. “IN BET GRAV!” (1d4 Damage, Pink 2 and killed!!) The magic dart hit the same one that the two archers had already hit, burning a hole in the back of its head and dropping it dead. “Which is good because I was getting such a stitch. Unlike SOME people here, I'm not built for running."

The press of undead was waning and we could see the ones that were missing feet were finally getting close enough to join the melee, and behind them, were other missing more limbs, dragging and hobbling closer. Another stepped up to assault Abraxas, a doughty looking orc missing part of its face (<+2 to hit, Green 12), grabbing and hitting, but the Fighter was able to shrug off the assault. Another climbed up onto the cabinet and attacked the Cleric (=+2 to hit, White 15), hitting her hard, making her cry in pain (1d6 no 1 Damage, White 6 – Take 6 Damage!). As she was rocking back from the blow, the next one on top of the cabinet hit the dwarf (>+2 to hit, Yellow 19), his armor ringing from the impact (1d6 no 1 Damage, White 5 – Take 5 Damage!), bruising him beneath.

(Initiative, Party Steel 3 vs Undead Red/Black 4)

(Freezer door: Black 19, Black 11. D6 damage: Red/Black 2)

“Never mind,” Lannis said. “I was wrong. Hey. Hey! Watch it! That one’s getting over!” Sure enough, one of the revenants from on top of the cabinet stepped off and engaged the dwarf on our side of the barrier while another climbed up in its place.

“Thor’s Balls! These bastards are tenacious!” (<+2 to hit, Teal 7…<+2 to hit, Green 11) He was fending off blows from the revenant on the ground as well as the one on top of the cabinet, holding it for now, but the situation was on the edge of running out of his control.

Hurting from the earlier attack, Lyra did her best to avoid being hit again, (<+2 to hit, White 12), blocking most of the shots with her shield. “I know! Some help guys, please?”

Abraxas was facing the one at the gap, with another behind it. They were trying to shove the cabinet to the side and widen the gap (Combative Str check: Enemy White 17 – failed vs Blue 17 – under by 1), but the Fighter planted his foot and pushed back, holding the line with ease. It still tried to hit Abraxas (<+2 to hit, -2 push attempt, Red/Black 15) but he was able to keep it from striking. As for the others in the hall, they had been getting progressively closer and in the distance, the sound of splintering wood from the failing Freezer door was becoming more obvious.

Time now is Day 10, 3:44 PM

(OOC)

Bottom of the round. Revenants hit a bit harder than Skellies, not as hard as Xombies. The cabinet is slowing them down, but a bad round in initiative did allow one of them to get a foot hold on the wrong side of the cabinet. You guys go!
