PBEM - Episode 466. Making a stand

FOUR HUNDRED SIXTY SIX

(I/C)

"Almost clear amigos,” Abraxas said confidently, Scythe arcing through the limited space at the northern part of the hall (>+8 to hit, Blue 13), ripping into the last undead over there. “Tres aqui, y mad en el way. Let's pile up las cuerpas en el cabinet y el otro side a trip up los Undead en el way.” (1d8+4 Damage, Blue 3+4=7 Damage) The revenant staggered from the blow, it’s left arm hanging limply at its side by a flap of loose skin, but it refused to fall and continued its attack.

Meanwhile, hitting the one on top of the barrier (>+4 to hit, White 6), Lyra could hear the approaching horde coming to the corner. “Stack the undead on the barrier? If we have the time,” she mused, looking about. “I won’t lie. Seeing the dead get used like stones to build a wall is a bit unsettling. Good thing they weren’t like… people people. Real people.”

Helping out Lyra’s attack on the one she had struck out at, Brendon’s sword hit (>+4 to hit, Red 10) at an awkward angle, slicing the revenant’s leg wide open to the bone (1d6+1 Damage, Red 2+1=3 Damage!) “Wyn’s been gone awhile,” he noted, “I hope he’s ok.”He tried to shove the brazier closer with his foot but the dead on the floor and the close quarters of the fighting made it impossible for now.

"Capital work Ocean Cap Hauling Crap, way to listen,” Lannis teased the Scout while Kovid shifted his attack to a two handed swing (>+6 to hit, Yellow 19), cracking into the closer undead on top with punishing force (1d8+3 damage, Yellow 8+3=11 Damage and killed!!), blasting it to the ground. Grunting in thanks, the Magic User turned his attack to the last one on top, wounded by the Scout, eyes looking into the gloom down the hall. “I think we're about to have company, I guess we'll see how this goes. Chong Lee, Hornswoggle, keep up the good work. Merrylegs... I'm sure you're doing your best." His staff flashed out (<+1 to hit, Pink 1 – Fumble! 1-2 hit friends, 3-4 hit self and stun, 5-6 lose weapon: Pink 4 – Self. Take 1 point of Damage and -4 on AC and to hit for the next full round) but he misjudged the height of the barrier and the end of it caught the lip, stopped short, and Lannis ran into back end of his own staff, making him go, “GURK!” as the free end slid up to his throat and he was forced to fall back a pair of steps, tears in his eyes and choking while trying to catch his breath.

“HAHhahahahaha!!” The party laughed together, still trying to defend themselves as they giggled at the wizard’s misfortune. As Wyn ran into the room from the hall, he was greeted to the sight of just 2 undead remaining, Lannis holding his neck and retching, and the party doing their best to laugh and attack at the same time. “Zut alors! I missed de fun! How it going ova ‘ere?”

“Just Lannis riding the Karma train for a stop or two,” Kovid chuckled. “How’s our six?”

“Nothing down dere yet, mes amis,” he replied, sword and shield up, “but I tink dat was just luck. I say we ‘ave bout a 16 ta 33 percent chance dat we will get some odder company in de next few minutes…Just a hunch.”

“Hmm,” Kovid’s beard bristled as the dwarf frowned in thought, “16-32 percent is oddly specific.”

Trying to gather his breath, Lannis uttered, “He's using the swametric system, I'd check his math."

The undead that Abraxas had wounded was still able to strike the Fighter with its other hand (>+2 to hit, Black 18), catching him on the upper part of his left arm (1d6 no 1, White 1: 2 – Take 2 Damage!), bruising him there but little more. The last one dropped down on our side and launched itself at the Cleric (<+2 to hit, Black 2) but she was able to keep it back with a firm press of her shield to its midsection.

From down the hall we could hear the muffled echo of the horde get just a bit clearer as the lead end of it made the far corner.

(Initiative Party Steel 1 vs Undead Red/Black 4)

Hoping to stem the tide long enough to add anything to the barrier, Abraxas struggled against another round of attacks from the revenant he was fighting (<+2 to hit, White 12) and Lyra did the same (<+2 to hit, White 13), but both of them were able to hold their own and prevent any further damage from accumulating.

And at the limit of Kovid’s light, we could see the shadowy figures of the horde finally come into view.

Time now is Day 10, 3:48 PM

(OOC)

2 left, one with 1 hp (Abraxas), and 1 with 5 hp (Lyra/Brendon’s). Horde hits next round. On this side of the barrier is the copper brazier (about 3’ wide, 2’ tall), the busted door, and about 8 assorted (soon to be 9) dead bodies ranging from goblins to salamanders. Let me know who wants to do what, and what the plan is. Good luck!!
