PBEM - Episode 513. Fireballs and Hobgoblins.

FIVE HUNDRED THIRTEEN

(I/C)

"Amigos,” Abraxas called out, Scythe weaving dangerously, “leave ese Robert a mi y los Ghoulies. No necessitamos mas dolor."

“Good plan!” Kovid agreed. He shouted to the two ghouls in the room, "Boris and Natasha, same thing, only better. Faster and more intense. Sick hob ballz again!" The first ghoul, Boris, tried to tear into the Hobgoblin (Ghoul attack @ +2, <11, <10, <9) but was turned aside by his shield, armor, and the edge of his sword.

Lannis who was moving back towards the relatively of Kovid and the doorway to the hall, cried out to Lyra who was loading up a sling stone, "Hey Goodbye Horses, what the fuck? Why didn't you warn me your stupid spell didn't work like I thought it did?"

The second ghoul, Natasha, had Rampant Zealotry defending his flank (Ghoul attack @ +2, <5, =18, <3), one his claw sweeps creasing the Captain on the neck (1d3 Damage, Red 3:2 Damage!), coaxing blood and the corruption on its claws threatening to paralyze him (>Save vs Paralyze, White 14), but too little had gotten into the wound.

His own sword out, Brendon blocked a blow from the Hobgoblin trending for the elf, and riposted in reply with a quip, “May I CUT in…” (<+4 to hit, Red 15) The blades met with a spray of sparks, and Brendon took Wyn’s place on the front line, the wounded elf staggering back, drawing his bow.

“Merci du Lac!” He swiftly nocked an arrow and let it fly (<+8 to hit, Orange 11), cracking it into the hobgoblin’s shield where it quivered there after a noisome THUNK.

Meanwhile, Lyra finally got around to answering the Magic User as she spun her sling up to speed, “Ah… now that I think of it. Had I used the Lannis doll, the spells might have worked better. Forgot about that little thing. Sorry!” (<+5 to hit, White 13) The stone hit the Captain at a long angle, and flew up shattering into the wall after clattering away.

With the round coming to an end and Rampant Zealotry plotting which person was going to face the cold edge of his sword in a flurry of debilitating strikes, Abraxas went through an attack form that had his weapon striking the hobgoblin in long sweeps alternating from low to high and high to low (>+8 to hit, Blue 15), coming in so strong that Rampant Zealotry could not successfully defend against every one of them (1d8+4 Damage, Blue 4+4=8 damage and killed!!). It was a brutal cut along the jugular that finished him off and the hobgoblin slumped to his knees hand to his neck as his arterial blood fountained across the battlefield. He fell over onto his face next and closed his eyes with a curse on his silent lips, before finally dying at the party’s feet.

It was silent as we all took stock of the situation, Abraxas and Kovid breaking into wide grins.

Brendon and Wyn swiftly went through the bodies on this floor and the one below, gathering up what treasures and bits of interest that seemed important. After a few minutes they rejoined the rest of the group and the ghouls at the upper watchtower and laid out the items of interest found (Brendon <search +2 thief, Red 8). “We ‘ave anudder crossbow, 6 more bolts, 150 gold crowns, 2 vials of extra healing, 2 vials of healing, a bag o wot I assume is dat disgustin’ “tuna can” stuff dey used to attract de ghouls, and accordin to Mister Du Lac, de dead Rampant’s shield seems lighter den ‘e would expect it to be for some reason.”

“Anyone here fight with a shield?” Lannis asked.

“I do,” Lyra replied.

“Anyone that isn’t a closeted basketcase, I mean?”

“Bite me, Loser.”

“Let’s divide the coin and figure out what we are going to do next,” Kovid suggested, “Take what we want and what not. I only have out friends here for a bit longer and we need to either neutralize them…” All 5 ghouls snarled at the dwarf on hearing that. He held his hand up as if calming them down. “Let them free, or use their aid against Grimtooth, if we’re feeling up to it.”

“We are a bit beat up,” Brendon sighed.

“But we did get some Healing,” Lannis noted.
