PBEM - Episode 501. Clearing the Chimney

FIVE HUNDRED ONE

(I/C)

Kovid rubbed his chin. “Anyone have some fire to clear out the shrieker?”

Looking at the puffing fungus, Brendon took out the atomizer, shaking it and feeling what was remaining within. “If I poison the Shrieker down we can start a fire.  It should set off the Shriekers upstairs. The smoke might even choke them in the garden. All that screaming upstairs might dishevel the buggers from their planned positions, or at least a few might come down for their slaughter.”

“Whoa,” Lyra held up her hand, “We might want to give the fireplace a quick listen. Make sure there’s nothing up there that will immediately know we’re fucking with the shriekers.”

The Scout nodded, “Sure, but I have to get rid of THIS one first.”

Taking out his woodcutter Axe, Wyn laid down his shield and pointed the head at the fireplace. “Iffin ye cen get rid of de shrooms, Du Lac, Wyn will chop some of dis furniture apart to make it easier to move out of de way.”

Brendon drew closer, watching the Shrieker as it began to puff up and react to his approach. He extended the atomizer’s nozzle and squeezed the bulb hard, sending the poison spewing out where the inhaling fungus filled up with the vapors…wheezed…and then seemed to deflate, wrinkling up as parts of its cap turned a darker color. “Got it,” he said, wrapping the atomizer back up (reduce to 1 use) and putting it away. “Problem solved.”

"Amigos, tengo una idea! Let's unstuck ese fireplace.” Abraxas clapped his hands and looked around . “There is an order to this, si? Uno: Carefully remove statues.”

“Good idea,” Lyra said.

“Then, we remove/hack apart tables to remove,” He looked over at the elf. “Wyn?”

Wyn nodded. “Oui. Maybe we try to move it first, en if everytin ees stuck, den I chop it.”

“Excellente. Kloverfield and I watch vigilantly for falling debris or shifting stones.” The dwarf nodded and Avraxas continued, “I don’t know where the block or mortared stones are if they are down here in the flue, but if they are we break up any big stones or "mortar" with Hammer + Crowbar/Prybar maybe wrapped with Towel to deaden the sound.”

Dusting off his hands and heading for the hallway door, Lannis gave an absent wave and lit his last torch. "You guys deal with that,” he pointed at Brendon, “If Captain Planet is feeling agreeable we can keep watch by the door they'd be coming by, and I can give them a warm welcome if the Roberts decide to show."

“oh no lannis isn’t going to help us, so sad,” Lyra said softly with a sneer, watching his walk out of the room. Brendon took up position at the door, bow out and head cocked and listening as the Magic User made his way north to the corner and then west till he arrived at the “T”. Once there he set himself up and practiced the words to Fireball again and again and again.

Shrugging, Abraxas looked over the party and smiled, “Let's get a work, si?"

The group started by dragging the elven statues out of the area of the hearth, untangling limbs where they needed to. Lyra, Kovid, and Abraxas worked hard until they came to the first table where Wyn used his axe to split the top in a few places, making it easier to drag the heavy table aside, revealing more stone bodies below. It was heavy work, steady work, but they made headway one body at a time.

It was about 20 minutes later when the last of the bodies was removed and dragged aside. Taking the lantern, Kovid stood on the hearth and looked up. “Hmm, seems clear at least down here. Can’t promise that it isn’t further up from here. Remember it pitches to the west. Brendon, you want to go up and check or do you want me to?”

Time now is Day 11, 1:10 PM

(OOC)

No WMC check. Lannis, still clear down the north hall. Fireplace is clear. Someone going to climb up? Who?
