PBEM - Episode 493. 2nd Attempt.

The party asked, if enough time passes, can they get another turn undead in, and the answer is yes - but they have to effectively "lose aggro" (to use a MMORPG term) first.

Follows:

FOUR HUNDRED NINETY THREE

(I/C)

Sneaking a look around the corner, Lyra frowned. “Damnit, they did spread out. Maybe we could get this a few times, turn around run and wait 10 minutes…And then go to the other side and hit them again?”

Sighting down the hall and then looking back, Lannis nodded slowly. "As long as it’s working and we have rooms with two exits sure, slow them down with a web if need be. Out of curiosity how long does that protection from fire spell of yours last? A lot of these hallways are distressingly short..."

Giving a smug smile, Lyra replied, “Don’t worry about it. If anyone gets fire resistance, it won’t be you anyway.”

He looked down at his fingers and then shook his head. "You're not getting it, are you. When this goes off, “he wiggled his index finger dangerously, “it WILL hit us too. Now, would you rather it hit all of us,” he pointed to himself, “or one of us?"

Moving back to the corner, Kovid gave soft chuckle, “Don’t blow us up, Big Brain. Point your newfound hocus in the direction opposite of wherever I’m standing for starters. Maybe we use Lady Lyra’s method first, yeah? By the way lass, feel free to bless old Kovid with that fire protection if Aine’s feeling generous…” he arched a thumb to the Magic User, “sounds like Big Brain here is planning on playing with matches.”

Rubbing his ears and then pretending to look at whatever he might have pulled out of it, "What part of 'I would kill myself if I tried' made you think I planned on casting it any time soon?"

“Cause that’s all you’ve been going on about,” Brendon muttered, motioned the party to be quiet. He took his place at the far corner, bow out and waited patiently.

Joining the others, Abraxas tapped Wyn and pointed back to the eastern corner, "Yo will wait por Señor Lignus y Señora Lytera a figure ese out. Para un distance. Señor Wynbix, soy backing up una bit."

Giving a thumbs up, Wyn made sure his sword and shield were out and ready, joining the others. He gave a quick vote of confidence to the Cleric, “We got yer back Priestess… dough it may be good fer us to beat feet away soon hereafta.”

Lannis joined the others, hands out and unsure what he was going to cast next. But Lyra took a deep breath, let it out slowly, and then turned the corner and proceeded to summon the goddess’ power, calling out to Aine to lend her her strength.

(Initiative 1 vs 1, reroll: Party Steel 2 vs Enemy Red/Black 4)

As she was intoning, the undead in the back saw her there and felt the rising mount of Aine’s strength. They cried out, shrill screams echoing down the hall, and the horde all turned as one, running and screaming as Lyra tried to speed through her turning. “You got this, Seabiscuit!” “Faster Lass!” “Trim de fat on dat turning an just get to de blow dem up part!”

But the revenants put on a burst of speed and Lyra could see them running out of the gloom, eyes trailing green fire as they closed the distance and the first one struck at her (<+2 to hit, Black 13). It rebounded off her shield, bouncing to the side, claws missing her face by inches. A revenant wolf was next, moving FASTER than the other revenants, leaping and bounding. It’s growls were raspy and its claws were raising sparks as it leapt and hit Lyra (<+2 to hit, Black 14 – missed by 1), its teeth savaging her forearm, she managed to pull it aside with a hard kick to the wolf’s flank.

But it was the heavy ponderous advance of the revenant bear that spelled a different problem for the Cleric. She was calling to Aine hard now, wind rising around her, empowering her holy symbol…but not fast enough to block the revenant ursine’s mighty sweeping claw (>+4 to hit, White 20, Critical – Max Damage – Take 8 Damage!!). It slammed Lyra back HARD, chain links shredding and deforming from the undead’s sweeping blow, her skull rebounding from the back wall, biting the end of her tongue, and seeing stars before her eyes.

And more undead were mounding up behind the advanced portion.

“AINE! GODDESS! I NEED YOU NOW!! TURN!!!!” (2d6 HD: White 4 + 4 = 8 hd!!)

And her holy symbol exploded into a funnel of shredding white light. It consumed the closest revenant and the wolf, burning them away to cinders before it struck the bear. The ursine roared in agony, arms up to protect its face, and the turning energy took a moment to consume it before it blew the flesh and bones apart, and then marched more down the hall, crushing two more revenants and another revenant wolf before finally ending with a wisp of sparking smoke. Lyra fell back a step, exhausted from the effort but gritted her teeth and shoved herself upright again, the hall in front of her scoured clear for a good 25’ at least.

(Initiative 2 vs 2, reroll. Party Steel 4 vs Enemy Red/Black 1)

“Holy Aine!” Lyra swore. She saw the revenants behind the other growling and screaming, pounding down the hall once again to engage her, one of them looming out of the dark was the revenant form of Hoots. “Uh…staying or running!? Let me know NOW!”

Time now is Day 11, 12:05 PM

(OOC)

Top of the round – only Lyra is at the “T”, rest of you are back at the corner. She coming and running? Where you going? Holding? Moving? Fighting? Let me know! Revenant wolves move 40’, Revenant bears are 3 hd and hit for d8, not d6.
