PBEM - Episode 498. Third Time's the Charm

Max check on cleric turning - Boo yah! Best time for it!

FOUR HUNDRED NINETY EIGHT

(I/C)

Wiping his nose clean with the back of his hand, Brendon continued to defend himself from the revenants clamoring to rip him apart. “Good thing I had a drink,” he joked shakily, “or else this woulda hurt worse.”

Waving his hands together in preparation of a spell, Lannis gave Lyra a nudge in support and said, "Alright Duchess, really put the God into this next one’ there's a shitload of dead bears back there!"

“Wow bears???” Lyra squinted down the dimly lit hall and swallowed nervously, “I had no idea! I’ll try harder this time.”

Wyn loaded up an arrow, nervous at the horde that was approaching. “Let me know when we want to get away from deze tings!”

Ducking another blow and blocking a second, Brendon cried out, “I wanna get away from these tings!”

Sidling to the left, Kovid tried to get in front of Brendon but the press of bodies was too great for the dwarf to overcome easily. “Thor, help Aine hear Lady Lyra’s call.”

“Aine! Goddess of the Summer! It’s time for the big one. We’re not talking about 2 or three here, I need it all my Goddess. These Revenants are a disease and you are the cure. So let’s heal the undead with your shining light. Burn them away, Burn them away…to paradise! TURN!!!” The wind swarmed behind her, her cloak flailing, hair dancing wildly. White energy blossomed from behind her eyes and flowed down to her outstretched holy symbol – and then roared away like a freight train (2d6 hd: 6+6 =12! Wow! Maximum HD!!).

The rest of the party had to turn their eyes away from the searing god borne light as Lyra floated half an inch off the ground as Aine used her as a conduit. The burning rays blew apart the closest revenants, and then the next batch. The ones behind were cast aside like leaves and then the revenant wolf was caught in mid leap and consumed. The Shebear Revenant roared out as the wave marched over her; fur skin flesh and bone turning to a column of fire that crumpled to the floor.

And that left Undead Hoots. The owlbear marched into the maelstrom two steps, then a third. “HRRROOOOHAAAAA!!!!” it let cry as it turned into a mass of blue and white fire that ate the undead monster down to the bone before the wave shredded it apart, leaving only splattering bone dust and grit where the majority of the revenants once stood. (Killed 5 revenants, 1 wolf revenant, 1 bear revenant and 1 owlbear revenant!)

With only FOUR left to stagger down the steps beyond the limit of the turn and approach the group, much less of a threat than they appeared earlier.

“Holy. Shit.” Lannis muttered.

As Kovid stood in front of him, Brendon leaned over the wizard and muttered, “This is why Lannis sucks!”

From the back rank Abraxas called out, "Amigos, necessitamos alto ese Revantes. Estan muy boring. Pero, me gusta no tengo dolor."

Wyn fired at the next Revenant that ran into the lantern light range (>+8 to hit, Orange 16), the shaft slamming deep into the undead’s chest (1d6 Damage, Orange 6!), slowing it down.

Wrapping up his own spell, Lannis answered, "We aren't giving you money to do your job Abraxas. IN BET GRAV!" A pink dart tore free and spiraled into the wounded undead (1d4 Damage, Pink 3 and killed!!), burning a hole in its face and dropping it. Leaving just three.

The last 3 ran down the hall but only one got close enough to hit the front line of the party and Kovid was there (<+2 to hit, Black 11), Theystran Hammer spinning about blocking the reaching hands and tearing talons, preventing any real damage from being done.

(Initiative Party Steel 5 vs Undead Red/Black 4)

Time now is Day 11, 12:42 PM

(OOC)

Great turning. First time she’s rolled maximum the entire game. Good job Lyra – because 3 HD revenant monsters are a terrible thing to fight. Ok – 3 to go! Kovid and Lyra are front rank, Lannis and Brendon are right behind, Wyn just beyond and at the door is Abraxas. Your guys turn. I think you’ve got this! This battle could have gone terribly different.
