PBEM, Episode 88 - Kill Grilljax, There and Back Again

EIGHTY EIGHT

(I/C)
“Do ya t’ink I has time ta lissen to ze door a bit an’ Veh-Ree-Fie ‘ow many is in there?” Wyn asked.

“No,” Brendon replied. “There are a lot of them in there, too risky.” He twisted the knob and gingerly unlatched the door, sliding to side, short sword at the ready. “And Abraxas, don’t yell and kick in the door.”

“Senor,” the Fighter sighed. “One time, 2 days ago, I did that for effect against El Goblo and ever since then, you assume I am going to Leroy Jimenez in there.”

“Jenkins,” Lannis offered.

“No, in my neighborhood, it was Jimenez. Real hothead.”

Kovid already grabbed the handle, shifting the lantern to his off hand. “Enough. Lannis, Lyra, we’ll follow your lead, ok?”

The Cleric nodded, gripping her holy symbol firmly. “Let’s do this.”

And with that, the dwarf tore the door open shield up, Fighter on his 6, and the two of them plowed into the room, shoving a muscular kobold right inside the door to the left and into the corner.

The room was sizable, with an alcove on walking in. Old tapestries lined the walls, stained but showing signs of elven nobility lounging around. Along the south wall was another door, currently closed. A fountain was in the far northwest corner and there was an overstuffed chair near it. The same skull cap wearing kobold, Grilljax, was seated upon it, and a host of 7 kobolds were in front of him shouting and waving their hands, the room was arguing. There were 4 kobolds who were not involved in the arguments, merely standing in one place, arms at their side, appearing indifferent to the bedlam around them.

Stepping in right behind the two warriors, Lannis was already waving his hands as the kobolds whirled around, trying to figure out what was going on, the Magic User finishing his spell with a resounding, “ZU!” and a spray of rose colored lights slammed across the chamber and (4d4: 2,1,2,1 = 6 hd!) 6 of the kobolds closest to Grilljax fell over unconscious. “Fucking Magic Bitch!”

The lone kobold that was not affected was a bit more wiry than the others, had a strung out look about him, and was gripping an oversized dwarven made war hammer. “Jowass!” the dwarf snarled. The hammer wielding kobold was closest to Lannis so Lyra who was right behind was already praying, “Aine, some favor please?” (Righteous Favor: White 35 – no) “Fine? We’ll do it straight.” Spying Grilljax on the throne she smiled, “Not this time, Grilljax. Mooks first.” Her voice grew in timbre as she intoned, “Aine! Hold my foes in place!”

Red pulsing light flowed out (1d4 random: White 1) recombined, and slammed into the hammer wielding kobold Jowass (<Save vs spells: Green 2) and he froze in place unable to move! “Done and done!”

“Escuse moi!” Wyn filled in the doorway his own hands waving, sighting Grilljax who was already looking at the wipeout of his clan here in this room, “Fait lux!” the elf cried and a spear of yellow light exploded against the kobold shaman (<Save vs spells, Black 9), rolled into his eye sockets, and stayed there – blinding the kobold who began to screech. “For you Abraxas.”

“Merci…um, Gracias amigo!” Turning to Kovid he smiled and pulled his sword back. “Senor, we have a K800 here and our weapons are clean.”

“Then let’s dirty them up!”

Meanwhile Brendon took advantage of the chaos of the battle to sneak into the room, keeping to the shadows and back area (<Hide +20 bonus, Red 25) and making it to the northeast corner of the room.

Kovid let the Thystra warhammer sing against the kobold’s head, shoulder, and chest, the weapon causing the silent kobold to stagger and falter as the dwarf beat into him (>+3 to hit, Yellow 16) cracking bones and as before, his blows would have dropped a normal kobold (1d8+2 damage, Yellow 5: 7 Damage!).

“Good shot, Senor Krabbypatty!” Abraxas cheered on the dwarf as he too slammed his sword into the eerily quiet kobold, raising grunts and little else (=+5 to hit, Blue 7). His blade cut deep and blood flowed but the kobold although pretty badly hurt (1d8+2 damage, Blue 3: 5 damage!) refused to drop.

As Grilljax was howling in fury, voice getting louder, the kobold the two fighters was facing was getting cut up, 6 kobolds asleep on the floor, Jowass frozen in place, and 3 other kobolds also with the same eerie calm expression 2 of which were flanking the shaman were getting ready to move and act…(Initiative: Party Steel 3, Kobolds Red/Black 2) the group got a bit of a break and were able to press their advantage again.
