PBEM, Episode 72 - SalAdepts/Dining Room

SEVENTY TWO

(I/C)

With the oil fire finally guttering away and the lone Adpet still burning but lower, Wyn took in the carnage and pointed to Kovid, “Monsieur Dwarf, as de mageek user suggested, after you take care of dat putain de merde, cen you guard de stairs door en keep an eye out while I do some searchin’, s’il vous plaĆ®t? Maybe eef I find sometin good it will bring back de spirts if Monsieur Salazar.”

“Sure, sure, sure,” the dwarf replied with a smile, walking up to the last held Adept, catching its eyes and grinning at it. “First I have to feed my hammer. It has lots of questions, Hawh hawhahwha!” Spinning the enchanted hammer once, he arced it back and whispered to the Adept, “Where are your friends little frog? HaHaHa!” He then brought it around where it hit the Adept full in the face and smashed it back, bursting its head wide open. “Satisfaction!”

Meanwhile Brendon moved closer to the corner, tapping Lannis on the shoulder and saying, “I’m going to watch here for our invisible friend. Let me know if we are moving or staying here.”

Lannis nodded and headed back to the main part of the hall. “Let’s not stay too long, I don't want that runner to get away. Kovid, watch the stairs would you?”

“Already on it, Manling” he said.

While they were searching through the bodies, Lyra had gotten Abraxas somewhat calm and patted his shoulder, “I’ll be right back,” and then headed back to the hall. “He still can’t see,” she addressed the rest of the group. “Might be a bit. Maybe we should barricade ourselves in the dining room until he gets his sight back?”

“Not until and unless I get a chance to check it out.” Kovid picked up the partially burned out torch from the floor and then turned his lantern over to Lyra. “Here, keep the lantern, search the bodies. I’ll give the Dining Room a once over. And then we can decide to barricade here or not. How long does he need Lyra?”

She sucked in her teeth and shook her head, voice pitched lower, “I would say almost 2 hours – got a full blast in the face.”

“Gotcha.”

“Let me know if he’s still crying,” Lannis chuckled. “I’m pretty sure he was up in my shit from hiding in a cabinet when my day was going south and I don’t want to miss a chance to tell him to sack up like he did me.”

“Serious, Lannis?” Lyra asked with disgust. The Magic User shrugged and continued his look over the bodies.

It took the three friends the better part of almost 10 minutes to go through the 7 bodies. With the robes and cowls pulled back they were able to see the Adepts were lizard looking in their face but not exactly. Their bodies were covered in fine red scales, they had short prehensile tails, 4 fingers on each hand and 4 toes all clawed. Their mouth was almost all canines with squat muzzles and ridges on their back. Each one was wearing a wide chested short legged set of Bandedmail armor that would not fit anyone except maybe Kovid who was already decked out in Platemail for now.

They all had metal shod clubs and a crappy wooden effigy of a lizard face on a symbol around their neck. But, besides all that they did have rope belts with small sacks that had a variety of colorful stones and strange chunks of bones and meat (no value) and each one had a decent pile of silver as well – (d6x10x7) totaling up to 150 silver pieces. In addition the three companions also found 2 FLASKS of OIL (1) , 3 TORCHES (1), 7 CLUBS (20), 3 SLINGS(1), 22 SLING STONES(1), 2 POTIONS OF HEALING(5), 1 POTION OF INVISIBILITY (5), and 1 GOLD HOLY SYMBOL (2) of the same lizard looking face – only was much better made and carves and also sported 2 rubies for eyes. Passing it up to Brendon he gave it a nod and said, “That’s worth something – probably get 150 crowns for it.”

As for arrows, although many of them filled the air, only 1 of them was salvageable as pulling it out of metal armor broke too many of the shafts and heads.

While all this was going on, Brendon had been quiet and listening – and although he never saw anything (<Hear Noise, Red 02), he was sure he heard the whisper of foot steps, and the edge of the web to the east might have moved faintly…and then steps retreating. Again, saw nothing but I was a guess.

As for the Dining Room, Kovid walked around (Stonework, Yellow 3) muttering to himself. There were no other doors in here and he was sure no secret doors as well. The elven statues around the table kept up a silent watch of the unhappy Abraxas waiting by the way out. “It’ll fade,” Kovid said in passing.

“No, I am blind, Senor.”

“It’ll fade. My god man, you kill things with your bare hands. You didn’t die.”

“I don’t know how or why anyone would do this, its loco.”

“It’s the job, Manling. And any dwarf knows you agree to do a job, you do it. Even if it gets tough. In fact, that’s the time you have to double down, because when it does get tough, you’re either a quitter or not. So as Lannis would say, sack up and stop complaining.”

Kovid finished his search of the room (<Wis Check, Yellow 7) and he noted that although there was nothing else in here and the elves were very dead statues – every one of them was looking in the vicinity of the door in their own way, and every one of them seemed miserable and frightened. But there were 17 statues here – and 20 chairs. And 20 place settings. Three of the elves had not been turned to stone, and holding his hammer of Theystra, he figured that the priestess that had trapped the gorgon in the secret panic room far below the ground had started here.

At this point the party was coming in to the Dining Room, Brendon as well, sharing what they had found and learned and the party was discussing what the next option was – hole up here or not?

Time now is 11:11

Kovid, the torch you are holding has about 15 minutes of life left.

Explore XP: 15 each (dining room)
Treasure XP: 150 silver, Jewlery @ 150 crowns.

Everyone add 25 silver (and according weight)
Everyone add 42 XP

Divide up what you have found, who gets what, and what the next plan is? Abraxas is blind, not helpless. There is 1 Adept still out there invisible and it might have gone near the web and then backed away. Where it is now? Who knows.
