PBEM, Episode 76 - Aquifer and Ferrets

SEVENTY SIX

(I/C)
Wyn took out his water skin and held it under the water’s surface. "Let us fill up our wa-tah-skeens en den go check out de squeakin' sounds to keep explorin' de cave, oui?"

Kovid sighed, doing the same. "If only this was an underground river of ale! Sounds like something needs our attention to the north."

The rest of the group followed suit. “I agree let’s go check out the squeaks,” Brendon said. “Anyone remember how big their peepers were last time?”

Finishing up with her skin, Lyra tied it back to her backpack and then took out her sling and a new rock. “We should be careful. They’re probably similar to the last rats we came across... those big ones. If there’s too many we might find ourselves in a predicament.”

Scowling and looking around with disgust, Lannis grunted in displeasure. “Ugh! This seems stupid, what, did giant rats also kill, maim, and urinate on those dead guys? I assume Jowass is hiding in there with Kovid’s hammer? Fine, let's go kill some R.O.U.S's. Finish up your water first in case this goes poorly, and maybe light an extra torch, I've heard they don't like light.”

Taking out a torch, Lannis spent a minute lighting it while the party gathered together, Brendon and Wyn going first, Abraxas and Kovid right behind. From there the party started walking north, the phosphosous fungi illuminating the area as well as Kovid’s lantern and the magic user’s torch. The squeaking was continuing north of here as we traveled on, louder and deeper, different than rat squeaks.

The Fighter leaned forward to whisper in the elf’s ear, “Señor Wynsel, do your dark eyes see anything?”

“Not yet, mon ami. Keep your rat sticker ready.”

As they made it past the north end of the pool of water, their light illuminating more of the narrowing passage ahead, they managed to also get a glimpse of red eyes staring back. We slowed down as a second set, then a third arrived.

And stepping out of the gloom were ferrets. Three of them. Giant Ferrets. Each one had to be almost 5’ long and weighed at least 25 lbs.

“Oh, yeah,” Lannis whispered. “This is MUCH better.”

The ferrets all had sticky strands of old webbing on their fur and on giving the group a once over (Monster reaction -2: Red Black 6 – 4 – Angry/Aggressive) they bared their teeth and chattered menacingly before ready to spring forward to attack the party (Initiative: Red/Black Giant Ferrets 1, Steel Party 6).

“Lannis,” Brendon said, “I think the Ferrets remember you!”

Time now is 1:56
(OOC)
3 Giant Ferrets – you guys won Initiative for a change! Kovid you are holding the lantern, Lannis, you are holding a torch.
