(I/C)
"Really?!” Lannis exclaimed, digging a throwing dart out of his bag as Brendon dropped back and to the right, bow up and ready. “We're really doing this? We're fighting enormous weasels? I'm leaving this part out of the story. Absolutely ridiculous."
Brendon meanwhile lined up his shot, “I’ve never actually eaten ferret before. I wonder if it’s any good?” and let his arrow fly (<+4 to hit, Red 5) but the shaft was too high and flew off into the cave.
“Ooo dere gonna be sum good eatin’ tonight, mes amis!” Wyn happily took aim and let his own arrow fly (>+5 to hit, Orange 5), the shaft scoring a deep line in the lead ferret on the left (1d6 Damage: Orange 3) causing it to chitter and squeal in fury.
Lyra had a sling stone loaded, “I doubt ferret is any good,” and launched it (<+3 to hit, White 2) but the stone missed by at least 4 feet and was lost in the gloom beyond. “Bah, probably tough and gritty.”
Kovid drew his steel dagger and hurled it at the wounded creature (<+1 to hit, Yellow 12) hitting it but it was hilt first and not blade. Abraxas looked like he was going to charge but held back and instead drew his stone dagger he had taken from the kobolds yesterday and hurled it at the same ferret (>+3 to hit, Blue 20 – Critical Max Damage 4 and killed!) where it slammed into it full blade and actually pinned part of its body to the cavern floor, the animal yowling horribly in its dying throws. "Careful hombres, we don’t want to waste what little meat they have to offer. They may be a bit gamey or tough, but food is food in times like this."
Feeling nothing but shame for the state the group had fallen to, Lannis looked at the next Ferret in line and hurled his steel dart (>+2 to hit, Pink 17) where it hit with a meaty thunk and tore a 6” gash in the animal’s flank (1d3 Damage, Pink 4: 2 Damage).
The giant ferrets, one hurt and one dead, (>Morale check, Red/Black 10) took the groups presence as something to avoid at all costs and raced off into the back of the cavern where their squeaks grew fainter as they got lost in some cracks and tiny burrows they had established back there, driven off.
“Well,” Lannis walked forward picking up his dart and looking it over. “Let’s leave the tale of the heroic victory against 5’ long stinky ferrets out of the tale, shall we?”
The group picked up all their tossed and thrown gear – everything salvageable except for the stone dagger that Abraxas had hurled, the blade was compromised from the expert throw and flaked off broken. “Damned anklebiters,” he bitched, “They make such shitty weapons. Cabron!” (Remove Stone Dagger (10) from sheet). “Hokay, we’ll just have to kill more to replace the one I lost, si?”
The group then spent a few extra minutes checking out the area but it was obvious that that after a few minutes, the cavern was a dead end and outside of the fresh water, there was nothing else of interest or value in here. Extinguishing his torch to be used later, Lannis looked at the party and asked, “And with that comment, do we continue down the hallway here that Grilljax and the kobolds had retreated to or not?”
