PBEM, Episode 78 - Aquifer and Ferrets

SEVENTY EIGHT

(I/C)
Grabbing the Giant Ferret, Wyn flipped it over and announced, “Time for Wyn to clean dis guy. Should only take a few minutes. Anyone 'ave a dagga I cen use?”

“Here you go, Elfling,” Kovid offered Wyn his steel dagger.

“Merci. Broke me knife out een de wilds when I was cleanin' doze conies a between de last town en 'ere. Senior Salazar, as you recommend, eedder clean dat old head sack or give me a new one please. Probably better to use a dry "new" one."

While Wyn carved up the Ferret, Abraxas used his waterskin and soap to wash out his large sack, whistling as he did so.  "Señor Wynt, let's get some food out of this kill. Might as well put it to use. The kitchen seems like the best place to cook, if it works. Less likely to attract attention. Anywhere else will be sure to spread smoke and the scent. The kitchen should have pathways for the smells and smoke to escape. I think after the meat is cooked, we clear out the middle left part of Kovets map. Fill in the blankness."

Brendon was near the stairs, listening for anything coming while all this was going on. Lannis was scowling terribly, “Killing and eating giant otters is not what I signed up for, we're better than this.”

“I was thinking we use ze steam room and slow cook thees Ferret,” Wyn suggested.

“Really?” Lannis replied, “That steam wasn’t very hot, I think the best we'd get out of it is damp pole cat. Ee might be better cooking in the kitchen perhaps, at least it probably has a way for the smoke to get out. If we block the doors up we might be able to mitigate the smell getting out"

Lyra wandered near the pool, looking in carefully (<Wis, White 9), adding, “Oh Goddess, gross. I’m with Lannis. Steaming a rodent sounds genuinely awful. Kitchen did seem like an okay place to hole up in just for a little bit while we cook it.”

Wyn was cutting the ferret slowly and with deliberate motions. “I did not suggest de kitchen ’cause TWO ov de battles we ‘ad ‘appened at de kitchen. It is obviously a place where many enemies will be en travel past. I said steaming because it be more out ov de way. Where we may not ‘ave to fight.”

“Hmmm.”

“Will it taste good?” the elf shrugged and in the same motion pulled the skin off the weasel. “Dat not be my concern. Sword, shields en spells not run on taste. Dey run on food. We ‘ave no salt. We ‘ave no peppa. So taste not be much sometin to ’ope fo’.”

“Yeah, but it’s a damned ferret!” Lannis pointed out as Abraxas was finishing up with his sack. “You don’t eat them, unless you’re REALLY hungry. And don’t we still have some rations?”

“Ya, a week old and zen some, donchaknow? On second tought, dough, iffin’ yous be ‘ungry enuff, yous may find dis taste like de necta ov de gods. Iffin’ you don’t want fresh meat dough, yous cen always ‘ave your ‘ardtac en suck in dat rock ‘ard cheese.”

The party refilled their waterskins one last time, Lyra pointing out at the bottom of the pool was an old bucket, 2 waterskins, and a wooden cup – obviously lost over the last few months by the denizen attempting to fill their own containers. The guts and offal Abraxas put in his clean bag while Kovid made sure to grab the giant ferret and place it in his own relatively cleaner sack. From there the group moved out.

The trip up the stairs went slow as Brendon (<Hear Noise +20 party, Red 30) made sure to watch and listen carefully. We made our way up to the top of the long steps, around the length to the SITTING ROOM, the passage to the north could faintly make out some echoes that might have been kobold voices some distance away. From there they went around to the long hall, past the kitchen, and down the stairs but not before stopping and making sure there was no one in those locations. At the bottom of the steps they turned south and made their way down those steps to the caverns below, the breeze blowing faintly towards them.

The group stole their way with care around to the Ishtari Bath Rooms and past the dead ape who was now swollen up a bit and had an odor to him. They entered the Steam Room and most of the group moved past to the Mosaic Room to avoid the wet and warm chamber. Abraxas, Kovid, and Wyn checked the floor a bit finding the hottest vents and then removed the giant ferret from within the bag and positioned it around the vents as best as possible.

“There!” Wyn announced. “Aint much o meat on ze animal when the guts be removed – but easily some 8 lbs or so eatin’ food in 2 hours or such.”

“F.O.U.S. meat, yum...”Kovid said. Wiping his face dry, he glanced down the page to check the time and saw it still wasn’t 3 yet and then looked at the party, “Resume Exploration (and kill Jowass!) or head back to the Barracks and camp?”

Time now is 2:47

(OOC)
Meat will gut food consumption in half for the day for the group. Where to next?
