PBEM - Episode 418. Great Goblin Battle and Fire.

FOUR HUNDRED EIGHTEEN

(I/C)

“We ‘ave no time,” Wyn whispered. “I will lock de two doors here at de sout’, and fuck it, we go and beat de gobos tru de nord door.” He handed his healing potion to Kovid who drank it down (Heal 1d6: Yellow 4 – Heal 4!) with a nod and silent thanks

“Let me silence the hall,” Lyra said hastily, pulling out the scroll. “Up there, at the corner, so any ghouls or orcs don’t come and get us.”

“That last door Wyn isn’t hitting?” Lannis pointed to, “As soon as the Twin Cobras go in and do their thing, I’ll get that door open and any gobs I see trying to buttonhook left will get a face full of webbing.”

Pulling out a fresh arrow, Brendon nodded and said, “Sounds like a solid plan. Let’s put them down!”

Wyn was already locking the Southernmost door, his uniform helping erect a lock in place where there wasn’t one earlier. Kovid and Abraxas began jogging north, Brendon right behind, as Lyra was marching behind, reciting the words off the scroll. It was burning away to light as the last of the enchantment flew free and a white crackling light hit the back corner of the north hall. She gave a thumbs up and that was all the impetus Abraxas and Kovid needed.

“Killing Greenies!” The dwarf chuckled. “Never gets old!”

“Let’smakesuretheydon’tgetanyolderthen,amigo!”

(Initiative: Party Steel 6 vs Enemy Red/Black 5)

Pretty much at the corner, the two men burst into the former Adept room to see it filled with around 15 goblins! There was a barrier erected along the back of the room from tables, chairs, and counters that had been here, 2 goblins with bows situated on top of the barrier and acting as watchers. Candles were lit all over the chamber, in sconces, on niches, even on the floor in places. The door to the south at the far end of the room was opened and they could faintly make movement in that direction. If Smallpox was here, he was blending in with the others. The goblins were clad in leather jerkins and had a variety of pretty decent cutlery, swords, and spears at the ready. The door into this room, the entire handle and lock area had been cut, sawed, and beaten out, leaving a hole in the door about a foot wide where it would line up with the jamb. It was currently open and there was a wedge holding it open in place, the door seemed to be holding up some metal behind it.

“Look at them all,” Kovid laughed. “Target rich environment!”

Meanwhile, Lyra was hoofing it down the hall to catch up, Brendon already at the door with his bow out, tracking a possible target. Wyn was going to lock the second door where the baths were, but the door was already locked (no use of the uniform charge), indicating that most likely someone was in the bath and using it at this time. He too went to jog north to join the battle, passing Lannis just as the Magic User opened the next door, hands cocked to throw a spell, and seeing…the long hall, also with a few candles lit and spaced about the floor on metal trays and holders, and half a dozen goblin within – one of them holding the large metal ball on the chain the goblins referred to as the Spinner. “This won’t do!” He chuckled, racing through his spell with a smile. "Will you step into my parlor? Said the Lannis to the Bob. I think these gloves are making me want to read dark, emo...tional poetry. IN ARACHNE REIF!!" Strands of thick sticky webbing shot out choking the hall and engulfing the two closest goblins  - as well as preventing this passage from being easily used. “Going to need to call Roto Rooter you little shits to unclog this shaft!”

Kovid plowed into the closest goblin, Theystran Hammer swinging in a wide arc. The goblin tried to duck but got a glancing clock to the head, dazing it. Which made the next few blows easier for the dwarf to land (>+6 to hit, Yellow 8) and had it cry out in pain, then scream, then finally beg for mercy as the dwarf worked it over and (1d8+3 Damage, Yellow 6+3=9 Damage and Killed!!) slaughtered the goblin. “Ha! One down already!”

He glanced over and saw Abraxas was a dervish of flashing silvered steel as he engaged one…two…three of the closest goblins. The Morrigaan Scythe was trailing green flesh and blood as it cut and sliced and carved its way through them (>+8 to hit, Blue 17…Extra Attack: >+8 to hit, Blue 17…Haste Attack: >+8 to hit, Blue 10). The one in front of his couldn’t defend from the multitude of attacks and ended up with its throat cut (1d8+4 Damage, Blue 2+4=6 and killed!!). The next had her right arm severed at the elbow (1d8+4 Damage, Blue 3+4=7 and killed!!) and then a reverse blow tore her femoral artery wide open and she bled out in seconds. And the last was struggling to stay away but Abraxas just marched forward (1d8+4 Damage, Blue 6+4=10 and killed!) and ended up cleaving the top third of its skull off where it slapped against the south wall with a clattering whack.

Total time, nineteen seconds. Three goblins killed.

Abraxas gave a blood splattered grin at the dwarf and shook the gore from his weapon. “IamSOlovingthis!”

An arrow flashed from the open door between the two of them as  Brendon shot (>+6 to hit, Red 10) one of the greenskins perched up high (1d6 Damage, Red 2), making it squeal from the hit.

From the hall and his position, Lannis could hear running feet and then banging and goblin curses as someone tried to open the southmost door – only to find it was locked thanks to Wyn’s uniform effect.

The two on the pedestal each cried out, “Dwarf!” together and drew aim, and fired their bows at Kovid. The first arrow (<+1 to hit, White 2) flew out and missed so bad, it hit the ceiling – a good 5 and a half feet OVER the dwarf’s head. The second shot (<+1 to hit, White 1 – Fumble: 1-2 lose weapon, 3-4 shoot friend, 5-6 hurt self: White 1 – lose weapon) was even worse as the goblin archer laughed and released his fingers.

And the bow flung forward into the battle and he was standing there…holding the arrow still, eyes crossed and trying to figure out what happened.

“I’m feeling real good about this battle so far,” Kovid chuckled. There were three more goblin combatants in place and they moved up to engage the two men. One each was going for the front, but the third was coming up along the dwarf’s left, looking to get him on the flank. The first hit the Fighter with a trio of long sweeps (<+0 to hit, Black 4), of which 2 missed entirely the last one Abraxas was able to parry without issue. The second one was on the dwarf, making some stabs at Kovid’s face (<+0 to hit, Black 10), but he was able to block them easy enough without issue.

It was the third one that feinted a shot at the dwarf with its mallet, and then instead turned and smacked the wedge out of the door. As the block of wood was knocked askew, the metal bracing behind the door was shown to been bent lengths of spring iron that SLAMMED the door closed with sudden quick and punishing force in Brendon’s face, the Scout dancing back just barely in time. And then, two braces attached to the door’s back by pins slipped down and landed point first against the rough stone ground.

“Got it, Smallpox!” the wedge knocker cried out, and Kovid and Abraxas could hear from back there. “Excellent!” Then “Bellows!” was the next call followed by what sounded like spell chanting.

And from behind the barrier two goblins came out, each with a fireplace bellows held in front of them. The bottom of the bellow was resting on a wooden shelf they were each wearing, allowing them to make one pump if need be at full power.

And they pointed the business end of the bellows from 11 feet away at Kovid. And pulled down HARD. (Save vs. Dragon Breath, +2 bonus: >Yellow 19 – yes…<Yellow 1 – oh, oh no!). And stinging vinegar came spewing out at high velocity striking the dwarf in the face. One of the blasts was angled a bit low and mostly soaked his beard and chest, but the other was dead on in his mouth, nose, and eyes – making his gasp and choke and wheeze, vision blurry and feeling light headed from the vinegar soaking through him (-2 to hit, damage, and AC for the next 10 rounds or until cleaned off). “ARGHGH!! FUGGCHKING GHHOBLINGGS!!”

And then from behind the barrier as the spell was wrapping up there was a sudden inrushing of air and “BAMPHING” sound.

And in the hall just south of Lannis’ position was a sudden outrushing of air and a “BAMPHING” sound, and the culmination of whatever spell was being cast.

And a spray of webs blew out from Smallpox and covered the Magic User where he was, choking the hall and making Wyn dance forward a few steps to avoid being caught as well.

“Gotcha!” the goblin artificer cried out, looking behind him and expecting to see more goblins at his back…but the hall was empty back there with part of his forces stuck behind the locked portal. “You tricky, Pinkskins,” he growled.

(Initiative: Party Steel 5 vs goblins Red/Black 3)

“Fuck it,” he snarled. “Burn the webs and toast the Sucky one!”

Time now is Day 10, 7:30 AM
