PBEM - Episode 404. Heading Back, Cleanup, and Rest

FOUR HUNDRED FOUR

(I/C)

Brendon kicked off his boots and stretched his toes, leaning back in the chair and rubbing his almost 2 weeks of beard growth. “I’m not in any shape to risk any look around.”

“I for one could use a rest,” Kovid frowned, looking at his battered helmet and then rubbing his tender skull. “Not sure about the rest of you. Maybe we get up early and hit them hard before breakfast.”

Lyra took out the artificer made doll of Lannis and looked it over absently. “We should rest. If we do go out, maybe it’d be to mess with those bricks. Otherwise maybe we can play with some magic trinkets and see what everything does. Like this ugly little doll I have.”

Continuing to empty out the bag of holding one item at a time, Abraxas eventually got to Mirabellis’ staff and mirror. “Let's rest y see what these do.”

Taking out his bottle of wine, Brendon took a deep drink and swallowed, asking, “Who wants to hear what I think another interview with Corfard was like?”

Smiling, Abraxas took out his bottle as well, hoisting up to ‘air toast’ and then took his own drink. "Necessito una noche de full rest. Y alguin bebidos. Donde esta el wine? Bebemos amigos. Y rest.”

Picking up the mirror and flipping it around, Wyn unsnapped his weapon belt and laid it next to him, leaning it against the wall. “Mayhaps we all wait togedder fer anodder coupla hours before tryin’ to sleep? While we be tired,” there were a five count of agreeable groans, “it seem a bit early to hit de hay... en de bad ones from de first floor might come up within de next 2 hours anyway en den de sleep would be ruined.”

Lannis took out his spell book and began fussing over it. The back cover and spine had some long scratches in the leather binding from where it slid across the stones and fell down the steps. "My poor book, I'm sorry I hurt you baby, I'll never put anyone before you again.” Taking out a tiny bit of leather paste, he proceeded to work the mixture into the book, frowning as he did so. “I agree we should rest, my heroics have left me feeling poorly, and my back hurts from carrying so many of you on it.”

“You jumped down a set of steps, Big Brain,” Brendon noted. “Heroic, but not carrying the rest of the group actions.”

“Um? Who negated the harpy threats?” he asked.

Both Wyn and Abraxas raised their hands.

The Magic User scoffed. “Only because I put them to sleep first.” He looked over to see Lyra was running her hand over the artificer’s doll, studying it intently. "Hey,” he said, hand out, “actually can I have that thing back? I think I left my uh...keys...inside it...for my house..."

“As if,” she said. “Just going to see if it does anything. That’s all.”

He smiled wanly. “It doesn’t. She was pretty rough in her treatment of the doll, I saw.”

“Whatever,” Lyra said. “I have my opinions. Go back to your book.”

Time passed and the party made many small repairs on their equipment and gear, taking the much needed time to straighten buckles, fix ties, plait leather, polish weapons, and sew holes where they could. As they were working, Lyra gave a silent prayer to Aine and tried to cast Hold Person on the simulacra. She could tell (<Wis -4 penalty, White 7) that it was possible to cast a spell on the item, and there was some conduit between it and Lannis, but it not a solid connection and a spell cast on the doll would not directly affect the wizard. There was also a distance affect to it. If the doll was more than 20’ away from Lannis, anything she did to it was not reflected in the wizards’ reactions later.

Unsure of what the purpose of the doll was then she spent more time with it and learned that there was a sliver of a manastone buried in the wood of the doll. Unlike the pieces that her and Lannis had earlier, this sliver was bright and unoccluded. She also noted that if the doll was within 20’ of Lannis, the “hurt” effects that the appeared on the doll were more real looking. “So…I wonder. Why would Mirabellis want this?” She decided then to try her Hold Person spell again, but this time while holding the doll, staying with 20’ of the magic user, and casting it directly on him. (<Save vs spells -2 penalty single target, -2 penalty resonance artificer doll, Pink 16).

And Lannis froze immediately. He began making squeaking noises and grunting at Lyra who was holding the doll up and showing the party what had happened. There was some good natured jocularity at the magic user’s plight for a few minutes before Lyra allowed the spell to end. “Relax, relax,” she said soothingly. “Alright. Here’s the doll facts for you. If I have it and cast a spell at you, it’s a bit harder for you to resist it. BUT, there is a resonance so the same can be said that if I cast a beneficial spell on you and I’m also within 20’, it should be MORE effective as well.”

“How DARE you do anything to me!” Lannis held his hand out, “Give it to me, Gluefactory. It’s mine.”

She stood up to the wizard and went nose to nose with him, “Actually, Pillowcase, it’s MINE.”

“MINE!”

“MINE!!!”

“You know! You know what?! You know what?! Keep it! I don’t want it anyway!” He stormed off to the corner and took out his cat book, turned his back to the party, and proceeded to read it, flipping the pages one at a time with a sharp angry sound.

Taking another swallow of his wine, Brendon asked Lyra, “Why’d you un-hold him?”

About 4:30, while the party was eating dinner (everyone knock off a day of water – food is coming from the elven rations – down to 33 meals in total) that they could hear distant yelling and noises through the walls. It sounded angry and there were many of them. “I tink de downstairs people ‘ave come up ‘ere.”

There were the sounds of doors slamming opened and closed. Shouts in the halls in common, goblin, and orcish. We heard people come into the Summoning room and more arguing. We heard through the walls people enter the Throne Room and more arguing. In fact it was almost an hour and a half of marching, yelling, and slamming and shouting before things eventually quieted down. Being where we were and behind multiple walls, we could hear nothing specific, just that the hornet’s nest was most likely kicked over.

It was about 6ish when Abraxas asked Lyra, "Señora, yo necessito uno ban-dah-jes, si tenemos uno a spare.”

Wyn gestured to her, “Priestess, s’il vous plaît... use de bandages on yerself, Salazar en de dwarf. Ye cen always use yer Aine miracles or potions to heal de odder 3 of us to greater effect. Just my two coppers.”

“Yeah, I was just about to get to that.” She took the clean Sclepian bandages from the pile and looked around. “I was thinking Kovid, Abraxas, and either Brendon or Lannis.” She looked down. “I had drunk some healing potions earlier and truthfully, I should be alright.” She went to the dwarf and wrapped up his hurts, Kovid also taking one of the healing potions and drinking it down (Healing potion 1d6: Yellow 3, Heal 3!). She then did the same for Abraxas and finally went to Brendon. “Lannis, he just seems a bit more hurt than you.”

“Not in his heart,” the Magic User frowned. “Not in his heart.”

“Ugh, you big baby,” the Scout replied.

Looking over his fresh bandages, Abraxas smiled, “Y mañana, mueremos Smeltpsh, y sus Gob horde."

“Gonna need water soon,” Kovid said, “I have enough for tomorrow then I’m out.” Most of the party agreed except Wyn who noted he had a bit more still remaining.

“We’re safe here,” Lannis pointed out, shutting the door to the Vault and then getting comfortable on the floor. “We all need a good night’s rest. Let the morons out there go crazy looking for us. This place was hidden from all of them for 6 months, we should be ok another night.” He laughed. “Plus with Travis and Duchess both dead as disco, I’m pretty sure Muskrat Fucker the goblin toilet repairman isn’t going to find a way in here.”

The party all settled down and went to sleep. (4 WMC: 5, 3, 1, 6)

If anything had attempted to find us during the night, it had no luck and the group woke up very early about 2:30 in the morning feeling damned better (Lannis heal 3, Lyra heal 4, Wyn heal 2, Abraxas heal 8, Brendon heal 6, and Kovid heal 12). Wyn and Lannis both spent some time scribing next (Wyn cast Read Magic to read Mira’s spellbook, then Add Web to your book (giving you 1 1st and 2 2nd left for today), Lannis add Sleep back to your book after copying it from Wyn’s) and then everyone who needed to prepared their spells for the day. It was about 4:30 and we had broken our fast and cleaned up the area when we looked around and debated what our next step today was going to be.

Time now is Day 10, 4:30 AM

(OOC)

I’ll post current hp and XP in discord in a few. And I’ll resend everyone’s sheet for Day 10. What’s the plan?
