ONE HUNDRED TWENTY FIVE
(I/C)
Wyn felt around the floor until he managed to pick up a palm sized rock. "There only be one way to be sure dey not be down dere... make room for me, s'il vous plaît... den back up enough so de light be away."
Kovid backed up a step, lantern held behind him to drown out some of the light. He sniffed the air, catching only the cool currents from ahead and nothing new. “Here goes something,” he muttered.
Brendon nocked an arrow standing at Wyn’s back, and Lyra patted the elf on the shoulder, wrapping one hand around his belt to pull him back if need be. “Be careful.”
Getting low and counting to three, Wyn rocked forward and peered down the long passage. His infravision flared up and he saw…a cool corridor. No heat sources. Nothing, featureless and plain. He pulled back and grinned. “No kobolds I can see.”
Lannis sighed, "These kobolds are getting very annoying with this ballista, I knew we should have taken that bolt when we had the chance. Why cant they just be easy to kill?”
“Shh,” Wyn said, eyes closed. “If…then. If…then. Hokay.” They snapped open as he pierced his gaze on the stone in his hand. “Fait lux!” he commanded, and the rock took on a white/yellow glow. With that, he whipped the stone (no roll needed) hard down the passage and pulled back, the group could hear the rock ‘tick tick tocking’ down the passage and eventually coming to a stop.”“Bueno Suerte Señor Wenydes,” Abraxas offered, swrod held high. “I will watch our rear, make sure no sneaky Bobs or Roberts sneak up to us."
Before the elf could look around the corner again, Lyra gave him a short pull and said, “Be careful. We’re making a lot of assumptions about the ballista and slime being on it or not. It could. Or they can set it on fire and shoot at us too. Just be ready to move backwards if we need to.”
Nodding, Wyn gathered himself up to peer around, Brendon whispering, “You’ve got this.”
And he did.
The passage was dark, but there was a globe of magical light down the hall where the stone was, shining on the door at the end of the hall. Closed. No kobolds, ballistas, or anything.
“Whew.”
The party made the turn around the corner and crept down slowly and with care eyes peeled as they approached the end of the hall and the globe of light (Situational observation: >Scout +2 thief ½ Wis Red 8, <Dwarf +2 stone ½ Wis Yellow 7, >Cleric [highest wisdom] ½ Wis White 11). As they went, Kovid was looking at the walls and floors with a critical dwarven eye. “Hmm,” he grunted.
“What, Monsieur?”
“Might be nothing. But besides the occasional scrape on the floor here and there, there are some places where the floor just looks…”
“What?”
“I don’t know. Clean?”
“Porquoi?”
“Can’t explain it. Just looks like the floor is just clean in odd spots here and there.”
“Like I don’t see it,” Lannis muttered. “Dwarf thing?”
“No, Manling. Like here, see here?” he shone his lantern down. “Right here, small area, about 3” diameter. There is no grit or staining. It’s just a clean spot.”
“I’ll take your word for it.”
At the door, Brendon picked up the stone and handed it to Wyn who nodded thanks. The Scout then gave the door a once over (no roll) assured it was not locked again, and listened (<Hear Noise, Red 07). After a minute he backed away. “I don’t hear much of anything except a faint sound of air movement and like before, you can feel the cold through the door.”
“So it’s all good?”
“I don’t know. Like I said I don’t hear MUCH of anything. But somewhere at the limit of my hearing, I might have had heard a faint shifting on stone. Not nearby, but somewhere.”
Kovid checked his map. “There are stairs going up and we had left some green slime up there. And then there is a door to Grilljax’ room. Could be up there? Pretty close and yet still far away?”
“I’m game,” the Scout said, flexing his bow. “But let’s have a plan all together.”
Time now is 7:45
