PBEM - Episode 532. Doing stuff. Locusts

Like a dog with a bone, the party wants to go back and screw with the locusts. Again. Sigh.

FIVE HUNDRED THIRTY TWO

(I/C)

Stretching high up like a cat, Brendon looked over at the party and said, “That was the best sleep I’ve had in the last 2 weeks.” Nudging the wizard with the side of his boot, he added, “Lannis if I didn’t thank you last night for rounding up the mattress for us I apologize. That was extremely kind of you.”

“Don’t mention it,” Lannis said, continuing with, “Never mind. Mention it often. Now shush, doing wild wizard stuff here.”

Lannis and Wyn continued to work in their spellbooks, the elf utilizing Mirabellis book and his own, while Lannis was scribing something from his own book to a loose page. It took some time which left the rest of the party a bit more time to discuss options and the plan for today. Some gear was swapped about and after an hour, the two men closed their books and rolled up the scroll.

“So I been lissenin to de plans and to sum it up I tink,” Wyn said cinching his backpack closed, “We check on de gem in the Throne room. See how it be doin'. Not sure iffin it last long iffin we not use de crown to activate it. Listen to both doors.”

“I agree,” Lyra said seriously, “Let’s not be too careless roaming around. We should continue to treat the halls as if they’re just as dangerous as before. We still don’t know what else could have slinked from the shadows and is now looking for an opportunity to eat Lannis.”

“Or my nipples!” The Magic User offered.

“We just wanna make sure dat dere in case be someone be in dere waiting.”

“You have a dizzying intellect, Swamprat.”

“I’ll assume dat was a compliment and merci at ye for it,” Wyn gave a thin lipped grin and continued. “Den we check de potions, set up de next round of potions usin' de tomatoes. And den? Den I guess we go clean de bandages.”

“I get the best rest with those bandages!” Kovid agreed with a laugh. “Well let’s get to it and try not to die today!”

"H'okay amigos, let's get to work,” Abraxas clapped his hands and looked around. “Lots to do today."

Taking the magic shield off his arm, Wyn offered it to Lyra, motioning for her to give her slightly battered one to him. “Also, before we head out, Priestess I tink ye should take dis magic shield. I take yer shield. It give you an extra oompf of protection wit de "ajout d'un". “

“Wait, really? Are you sure?” The elf nodded, getting a smile from Lyra. “Thanks Wyn!” (Adjust inventory and magic inventory appropriately, Lyra – Base AC is now 18, Wyn Base AC is 16, 17 with a shield).

“De nada…er..no problem. Also also...” he slid the Omega 30 medallion out of his pouch and handed it to Kovid, indicating the dwarf should put it on. “I tink Dwarfriend should take the Omega necklace for the time being. He's de most likely to survive in de event we surprised attacked. It may be swapped later before de dragon battle. What does de party tink?”

Brendon shrugged, “The Omega medallion sound like something from another galaxy… if that was really a thing.”

“By Grapthor’s Hammer, thanks.” Kovid looked it over and slid it under his armor.

"Yeah, take it, makes the most sense for you to carry it anyway,” Lannis picked at his ear and then glanced at his nail, wiping it absently on the edge of his robe. “It will take the dragon the longest to beat you to death. Speaking of being beat to death, we should probably stick together from here on out.”

Seeing the party was getting ready to leave, Brendon held up his hand and dashed into the Vault, his wine skin held aloft and shaking. “I’ll be with you in a second. It seems as someone has been nipping at my wine.”

“I think you had enough,” Lyra said.

“No, no,” he reassured her, topping off his skin. “It’s not for now.” He closed the Ispan’s cask and then sniffed his own full skin. “Lass, want a swig before we head out?”

“No. And neither do you.”

“Fine fine,” he stepped out and Wyn locked the Vault up tight. We all gathered at the north door leading back to the Throne Room, and Brendon was listening (no roll needed). “Since I have a slight advantage I’d like to move a bit apart of you all as we hit the hall and scope things out ahead.”

“You got it,” Lannis agreed.

“Let’s do what we gotta dew and as for wot comes next, I guess we talk about it after de mornin' chores, oui?”

With a series of nods and agreements, the group made their way into the Throne Room and looked around. The Ishtari Crystal was still scintillating, but the colors were pale and washed out looking. It still crackled if the group got too close and Lannis gave it a series once over (<Int check, -4 penalty, Pink 9). “Good news and bad. Good news, we’ve got 3 or 4 days tops with this baby.”

“Dats good?”

“Yeah. Cause the bad news is I might be off by a day. In either direction.”

“Merde.”

“Yep, stinking piles of merde.”

Brendon rubbed his chin, “We might want to get a look either thru the windows to below or outside to see if there’s more uglies waiting at the dome. Eventually we’ll want to get out of here quickly and safely.”

“I agree,” Kovid muttered. “Let’s go on.”

They left the Throne room and headed east, Brendon walking point. He seemed more confident and quieter as he moved. At the corner (WMC: Red/Black 5) he waved us forward and the group headed south, making good time to the Alchemy Lab. Once there, Brendon used his key to open the lab door and we all followed Lyra in who smiled on seeing the Iron Statue, a purple flash shining from under the helm. “How’d you do, buddy?” she asked, going over to the table. (1d4+2 – White 3+2=5 potions of Healing) She was pleased to see 5 vials full and sealed up, giving the Statue a friendly clap on its back. “You did GREAT!”

(5 potions of Healing – please let me know WHO is taking them and if drinking or storing them)

“Keep the love fest to a minimum,” Lannis said, “Let’s get the last of anything useful out of tall, metal, and slavish over here.” As before, Lannis and Lyra went through the list of ingredients, the Cleric checking the short hand on the wall. Wyn donated the 8 tomatoes from the box he had reclaimed, and once all the reagents and brewing order was established, Lyra gave the directions to the Iron Statue and it began its next brewing process.

“Ok,” she said. “2-4 Extra Healing potions if all goes well, and it’ll be done about quarter after 10 tonight.”

“Great job,” Brendon said.

“Um, I did the work, hello!” Lannis scoffed. “All she did was behave like a woman, listen to my commands, and got to work cooking something. Sheesh!” He clapped his hands and made a whinnying noise, “We have things to do though, right? Bandages? Let's go watch someone clean a dirty rag together gang!"

The party left the Lab, the Scout once more locking the door, and made their way up to the Watchtower (Lannis sucks), and then eventually down and around to the caverns and the locust area. Looking down the trilling hallway, Brendon hitched his thumb in that direction and asked, “Couldn’t the two of you figure out where to shoot the fireball that it would send a backdraft down the hall with the locusts? Or does that take a bigger brain to figure out?”

The Magic User fixed Brendon with a hard stare, “Why don’t you go find a nice fat eleven year old runaway on the docks and bring him on board your ship, the SS Shitstain, so he can swab your poopdeck?” He waved the group to keep going. “If it was that easy, anyone can do it. I’m working with arcane forces so powerful, it would drive a lesser man mad. Mad!”

“Oi! Wot a cunt,” Brendon muttered. The party moved on making their way through the Castle proper and eventually the long way around the lower floor (WMC: Red/Black 4) until they came at long last to the stairs leading down to the Sulfur area. Lyra took the Scelpian Bandages from Abraxas and her and Kovid once more went down to the acrid chamber, while the rest of the group waited up top, ready.

They were gone a bit over five minutes (Save vs poison, +4 bonus, >White 6 (whoa!, close!)..>Yellow 20 (what a waste of a critical!)) before they both came back up smiling. “Clean,” Lyra said, handing them back to Abraxas who put them away.

“You are nailing this domestic thing today,” Lannis offered, getting a friendship finger in return. “Ok? So what now?”

Time now is Day 12, 9:10 AM
