PBEM - Episode 531. Much Needed Rest.

FIVE HUNDRED THIRTY ONE

(I/C)

Wyn unlocked the Vault proper as the party dragged the mattresses into the long secret hall, one at a time. Lannis made a point of letting each person know that he personally dragged the mattress over here for them and tem alone, and that THIS mattress was their mattress and THAT mattress was his mattress. He also made sure that no one messed up their order or inadvertently swapped them around. “No, no, you’re was the one with the patch weave running east west right here. That one is Abraxas’, the points were sewn with triple thread at the corners. Listen, don’t screw this up, ok? I worked hard for all of you. Thankyouverymuch.”

The elf lowered his backpack and cloak to the base of his sleeping area and smiled wanly, “Good job wit de beds, dere, Offop.”

“I know,” he replied.

Taking a deep breath, Kovid hitched to his side and rolled his head back, looking at the Magic User and asking, “Big Brain, you think you can take a peek at the dragon with your magic ball?"

Brows crossed, Lannis walked right up the the dwarf and stared down at him. "You know Bombur, you think the echo down there would make it easier to hear me.” He knelt down and said a bit louder, “I can't use the ball again until tomorrow. Savvy?” He then straightened up and failed to keep the look of disdain from his face.

The Scout fell into a giggling fit, transmuting to a round of hiccups that had him degenerate once again to the giggling.

Frowning, Wyn asked, “Where did du Lac find all dat booze?”

“Who knows,” Lyra shrugged. “I think he’s been drinking a bit more each day.”

Giving a brief nod, the elf turned his head and sniffed himself, scrunching his nose up and exclaiming, “Ooo! Wyn sure ees looking forward to dat bath. Anyone else coming wit moi to Candella? Probably should listen to de doors before going into dat area… make sure dere be no goblin’s hiding’ out.”

The Magic User smiled, “I could go for a bath, sounds lovely."

Rolling off the mattress, Brendon staggered to his feet, belched loudly, and said, “I’m show exsited to habe a rewaxing baff.”

Putting his own pack down, Abraxas dusted at the many stains on his legs and said, “Amigos, Señor Wyntermint es correcto. Una bath es un idea mas excellente. Let's head over a el Bath con Señora Candelescent. Podemos mirar como ella esta. Tenemos bebeidos y comida. Then, dormamos y usar los ban-dah-jes - si, por favor - y recover. Mañana, we clear el Jardin. Maybe Señor Lastdance can show us his so called 'Fireball' el keeps going on about, si? H'okay, we bathe, we drink, we eat, we hold up en ese Vault, everyone sleeps - no reason a keep watch ahora, correcto? Cuando we awake, let's take stock de our inventory y make changes accordingly, si?"

The group got quiet, most of them looking at one another before Lyra shrugged and stood up, “I don’t know what Abraxas said but I got the part about bathing, eating, drinking and sleeping. We’ve already eaten, and I’m pretty sure Brendon is done with drinking. But otherwise, I’m down with those.”

The party filed out of the secret area, Wyn locking the door behind us, the elf smiling and adding, “Den we sleep. Ooo… we gonna sleep good tonight, mes amis… I ga-rahn-teeee.” They walked out of the Throne room, turned east, and made their way to the hall. From there, they turned south and stopped at the 3rd door on the east, Wyn knocking once and trying the handle, “Candella?” he asked as the door opened, “May we come in?”

“Ah, Adventurers,” the goblin matron smiled, waving them to enter. “Please, come. I thought I would be seeing you soon.”

“We’d like to know if can take a bash…blathe…wash up in the tub,” Brendon said weaving slightly.

“Celebrating early, aren’t we?” She chuckled, her rheumy eyes twinkling. “Of course you may. I imagine that things are going to get interesting for you all in the next few day, yes?”

“Dat is our hope, Matron.”

The party each took their turn in the baths, the Matron filling the air with stories of castle life in the heyday of the Ispan’s rule, as well as the comings and goings of those who lived here decades earlier. It was refreshing and invigorating, and the party noted that in the interim, she also gave each person’s clothing a short washing as well, getting the worst of the stains and dirt out of it. At the end of the hour, the party was all happy, clean, and in great spirits.

“Now, don’t let an old busybody tell you what to do or not to do,” she said with a wistful smile. “But I think an old worm doesn’t quite know yet the new status of things and won’t know until certain personages are late for their midnight report in. So you make sure you get to someplace safe and hunker down long before then. Because I just know that the worm will be wroth and angry and might send some of his Guardians out to find you. He also might be hoping to generate some more revenants to slow you up if the situation arises.”

“Hard to do,” Lyra said with a smile, “Since we made sure the recently deceased were left without heads.”

“Ah! Splendid, Summer’s Child! So resourceful. That will put a bee in his bonnet,” the Matron grinned. “Then off with you, rest well, and sleep contently knowing that you have done wonderful so far. Just a little bit further and you’re there.”

“Merci, Matron,” Wyn bowed, the rest of the group echoing his thanks. Feeling clean and relaxed, we left the baths, turned north and headed back to the Throne Room. From there we used the key and entered the secret hall and opened the vault, closing the secret door to the Throne Room again and making sure both north and south secret doors were shut and locked.

Lannis tapped the elf on the shoulder and took out his Scroll of Detect Magic. “Let’s get that medallion checked over and make sure we didn’t pick up anything we didn’t know about.” He read the scroll swiftly, the parchment turning to flame as the letters burned away and at the end he flourished it with, “TEGERE ARCANUS!”

Pink spark flew out filling the room, settling on a number of items, some we had guessed as being magic already (Wyn’s shield he took from Rampant Zealotry, Brendon’s boots he had taken from Grimtooth) as well as the medallion. “Ok, ok, ok, Let’s see what we have here.”

Lannis and Wyn (<Int check, Pink 4..<Orange 11) discussed the items at length confabbing for a bit before the Magic User cleared his throat and let the group know what was what. “Ok, the shield is magic, Plus one, whatever the fuck that means. And those boots, Pirateface? They’re the match to the cloak you’re wearing, Lesser Elven Boots (offers a +20 to you move silently checks when wearing them).”

“What about the medallion,” Lyra asked. “That’s an Omega, yes?”

“Yep, typically it mean “the end”.”

“Sounds ominous.” She said.

“Not really. Pretty much, if the wearer wills it to work by activating the Omega 30, it provides a 30 second jump back in time.”

“That’s not a lot of time.”

Lannis shrugged, “It’s enough time to fix a single mistake.”

“Or half a terrible combat round,” Brendon suggested.

“What?”

“What what?”

“Nevermind, I’ll assume you’re just a drunk.” Lannis spun it. “Think of it as a last ditch if we’ve totally fucked up and need to redo a series of bad circumstances or short term decisions.”

“Shall I keep it?” Wyn asked.

Lannis shook his head. “I don’t think so.” He looked around. “We can discsuss it, but I think it should go to me or to Kovid and I’ll explain why. I have the scroll of Protection from Dragons so I’d be the one most likely still around to make the call to activate it should something go horrible with Corfard’s fight. Or Kovid who has more hit points than most everyone else in the group, so he’d be the one most likely standing around to make that decision to use it.”

“Will it go off if you die?”

“Nope, you have to have it touch some part of your skin and be able to consciously will it to activate.”

Abraxas nodded. “This should be a discussion for tomorrow after we rest and we start to plan for our attack on the Jardin and eventually Cumfart.”

Lyra had been preparing the Sclepian Bandages during all this time, going up to Kovid, Abraxas…and eventually Lannis, making sure all three party members were going to heal well during the night. So it was at 9:30 PM that we all settled down and for the first time for most of us in 18 days, got a chance to sleep in a bed.

(Lannis heal 4, Lyra heal 4, Wyn heal 2, Abraxas heal 8, Brendon heal 3, and Kovid…heal 12).

It was a bit before 6 in the morning that we woke up, felt very refreshed, broke our fast, and studied and prepared our spells for what was going to be, an interesting an exciting new day!

Time now is Day 12, Time is 6:45 AM

(OOC)

Ok! Spells back, healing on! We have some potions and there are 3-6 waiting for us at the Alchemy Labs. Do NOT assume there are no wandering monsters anymore, that window has closed. What is the plan? Where do we want to go? Exciting day! Revised HP totals will be on Discord.
