FIVE HUNDRED TWENTY NINE
(I/C)
The party spent some time going through their packs and leaving swaths of material and items behind. Abraxas removed the crazy amount of gold we had picked up, the Fighter filling the water barrel to the rim, and then had to start on the next empty one. As they were going through everything, Wyn asked, “Monsieur Salazar, cen ye throw dis rope inta de bag of holdin'? Just in cases, oui?”
“Si, si. If anyone has anything else like this let me know and I’ll add it to here.”
“Do we want to stop en eat right now before we finish de rest of our work?” The elf took out one of the Beekeeper’s jars of honey (From post 162, Day 5!!) and opened it up, smelling it and smiling. “We cen enjoy some of dis honey while we at it. Den we go do de brass ball ting.”
"Might as well eat now, certainly couldn't hurt,” Lannis said, looking in his pouches for whatever foodstuffs he had.
“After that let's get this ball thing figured out I say, assuming it won't blow up in our faces. After that, space permitting, maybe we could at least drag some mattresses in here? Throw a bath in there for shots and giggles, there's mattresses over there anyway right?"
“How are we on food?” Lyra asked with a frown. “I’m personally out of rations.”
“Before we eat the elven magical rations,” Kovid suggested, “Let’s share what trail rations we have as they won’t last forever, ok?”
“Thanks, Kovid.”
Abraxas also drank down his potion of Extra Healing (Heal 2d6: Blue 2, Blue 5 = 7 – Heal 7!), feeling a bit better for it. Kovid looked at his vial and frowned. “Huh, thought it was Xtra healing as well. Ah well, Healing still works for me.”
The party ate up (Wyn reduce food from 5 to 1 – helped out Lannis, Lyra, and Kovid. Wyn, Abraxas, and Brendon all fed themselves and each have 1 day IR remaining) and drank (everyone reduce water by 1). Mood was high and morale was up. During the end of the meal, Brendon asked, “Maybe we should take a run downstairs to clean the bandages before we adjust things up here.”
“Shit are the bandages not clean?” Lyra asked. Abraxas handed her the Bag of Holding and she verified they were still dirty. “Damn, I can’t remember what day it is anymore. We should do that – and since we’re low on food, we can take a look around for some as well.”
“Also, Lannis are you going to use the crystal ball to check on Corfard?” Brendon asked, “Maybe get a layout of the area he’s in?”
“Tomorrow, Captain Stubbing. I’m out of Ball Juice right now.”
“He he,” Kovid chuckled. “Ball Juice.”
On completion of their meal, they cleaned up, and feeling lighter and more ready, headed out of the Vault, locking it behind them. From there they went south to the Summoning Room, closing the secret door behind, and moved on to the Main East/West hall. From there, they travelled east to the “T” and then took the winding path south and around, being extra quiet as they passed the southern doors on their way eventually to the Game Room. Brendon made sure all was good (no roll needed) and we entered the chamber again.
As before, all the games were loose on the floor and stacked on the tables as we had used the shelves as impromptu shields and barriers when we tried to charge the Hobgoblin position yesterday. But the group went up to the locked cabinet and the Scout gave it another once over (no roll needed). After a few minutes, Brendon nodded, “It’s good. I can’t tell if it’s trapped but I think that it isn’t. The brass balls are placed in these cups on the top and between their exact weight, size, and conductivity, they would release the 3 pressure locks and the cabinet door should open.”
Wyn held one of the balls and placed it carefully over the left most indentation, letting it roll in before waiting.
Nothing happened.
He then did the same with the last spot (the third was already filled earlier with an existing Brass Ball in this chamber), letting the ball rock a bit and then fill the hole.
The front door of the cabinet opened and light spilled out along with a faint ghostly sound of fanfare. Inside the mirrored interior were two smaller bronze cups about 7” tall, a larger silver cup about 9” tall, an even larger golden cup about 12” tall, and a gold medallion on a bronze chain with what seemed to be the number 30 on one side written in elvish, and the Omega symbol on the opposite side. All the cups were mounted on wooden plinths and in elven script were carved “3rd” in the Bronze, “2nd” in the silver, and “1st” in the gold one. Brendon looked the cups over (<Int check, Thief appraise +2, Red 13) and whistled. “These are very nice, have some weight to them as well. Trophies, but rather excellently made. Bronze ones would fetch 100 crowns in Specularum, Silver would get us 350, and the gold is worth a cool 900 crowns easy.”
“And the medallion?
Brendon tapped it slightly and frowned as it crackled in his hands, sparks trailing off. “Well, I’d say it’s worth a buck 50 easy, but I also got the impression it might be magic.”
As the group looked them over also, Abraxas was thinking about the time remaining to us. “Don't forget amigos, tenemos el Ballista a move as well. Podemos wait until after the Jardin is cleared to do it, pero it es something to remember. Un otro cosa en el list. Señor WynkyTinky, vayamos y deal con el problemo de cabezas. Señora Lala-rah y Señor Po-vid can go clean the ban-dah-jes. Señor Bren-dipsy y Señor Sunbaby podemeis get beds y hacer el Vault mas comfortable. Mejor de los hombres malo son muerte. Tenemos trabajo mucho. Hacemos amigos!"
