PBEM - Episode 559. Plants and Solutions

FIVE HUNDRED FIFTY NINE

(I/C)

Lyra drew a knife with her off hand, holding her wrist over the fountain. “Okay, so I think if we just all bleed into the fountain…”

Meanwhile Wyn was instructing everyone to stand in front of the fountain while Lyra was talking. “Ok... we'll dis be wort a shot. Goddess weapon holders get in front of de respective statue. We use de same prayer from de magic rainbow dodecahedron!”

“Oh. Okay, yea the prayer,” Lyra kicked the closest plant monster away and presented her flail after sheathing her knife. “That’s probably a better idea.”

"Excellent thinking!” Lannis said, head bobbing vigorously, grin on his face. “I see Wyn isn't just a name… it’s a descriptive title! I couldn't have thought of a better idea myself!"

“Ugh,” he looked around, “Everyone remember their lines, right?”

"Si, Señor Wynshes. Hacemos! Soy Listo!"

“Well… Hope this works. And, um, BX BABY!!!” He gave the closest plant monster a hard shove with his shield and intoned, “The Sun Rises in the Dawnlands! It is our charge to keep the Darkness at bay.”

Abraxas held his Scythe out, saying surprisingly clearly, “By the Bounty of the Princess of Grain do we feed the hungry warriors.”

Kovid went next, “By the Brilliance of the Moon Goddess do we illuminate the shrouding dark.”

Then Lyra, “By the Children on the Queen of Monsters do we fight the devouring hordes.”

Lannis followed, the Magic User dismayed as there was no power build during the ritual, to fluctuations, and none of the other magical or physical signs that we had seen in the throne room was occurring here at all. But doggedly, he rang out, “By the Love of the Wanting Mother do we balance the weave of magic.” The dragon’s laughter was an undercurrent throughout the ritual so far.

As the plant monsters drew closer, Wyn was looking around with care, speaking clearly yet swiftly the last portion of the ritual. “The balancing power of the four watch over the elven nation and protect its people from harm. The Dawnlands in return promise to ever hold the hordes of Jector in the Dark. Our dear Goddesses, grant us a sliver of your power. Aid us in clearing Ispan's Garden of evil. Restore this castle to its former glory!”

The plant monster at Kovid’s side smashed out at the dwarf at the end of the ritual, raking his beard and chest with its branches (<+3 to hit, White 6), making him duck and dodge, just missing getting shredded. The one closest to Wyn attacked the elf (=+3 to hit, White 14), vines grabbing at his ankles while the thorny top pierced through the elf’s armor, drawing blood under his shift (1d4 Damage, Red/Black 3 – Take 3 Damage!). The third had gotten within range to sweep its branches at Brendon (=+3 to hit, White 12), making the Scout hiss in pain and step to the side to avoid another tearing wound (1d4 Damage, Blue 1, Take 1 Damage!)

Waving his torch and hammer at the archer bush, Kovid shook his head and suggested, “Maybe we just get to the dragon and leave the killer plants be?!”

(Initiative 6 vs 6, reroll. Party Steel 5 vs Enemy Red/Black 2)

(New growth? 1d6 – 2)

A number of the swelling growths had gotten larger again, and sprouted tendrils, vines, and creepers, propelling them across the floor and towards the party again. And we could see at least 2 more quickly growing buds elsewhere in the Garden.

“This would be a perfect time for Flourbawl,” Lannis noted.

“Um, not when we’re at ground zero,” Lyra suggested, pointing around.

“Yeah, well, except for that. Of course.”

And to the south, Corfard continued to be amused by our actions.

Time now is Day 13, 7:47 AM

(OOC)

Mirror Images (1 for Lannis): 53 Minutes

Bless: 45 Minutes

Ok – lots of Archer Bushes around again. Fountain attempt at a ritual had no effect. Tik Tok. What’s next?
