PBEM - Episode 322. South and Tea.

THREE HUNDRED TWENTY TWO

(I/C)

After the group conferred for a bit, it was decided they should press on to the hallway and check out the door leading to the blank area on the map. The Scout was pointing to the bedding from the Adepts on the floor, commenting, “Maybe we should grab a few things to burn, might help us later.”

“Dey most likely smell like de frog,” Wyn wrinkled his nose.

"Aren't frogs cold blooded?”’ Lannis asked. “Would they even drink tea?”

Lyra shook her head. “Cold blooded just means the environment determines their body temperature. It kind of makes sense they’d like some warm tea. I think.”

“Yeah. That’ll be pleasant.” The Scout then pointed at the basket Lyra had put down and picked up the knitting needle and the ball of yarn. “I’d bet those needles are magical. Maybe it relaxes the individual that uses it.” He looked through at the other works in progress and shook his head. “There’s no way the frogs knitted those things unless a command word makes them knit.”

The wizard shrugged. “Maybe someone else has been doing the knitting.”

Brendon looked over the needles and then held them in one hand and the yarn in the other. With his eyes closed he screwed up his face in concentration and muttered, “Scarf please.” The group watched, waiting…but nothing happened. Peeking with one eye and then the other, Brendon smiled sheepishly and placed the items in his pack (Add knitting needles and yarn [5]) and said, “Whatever. I find it relaxing.”

Motioning back to the other room, Abraxas said, "Este es mas likely a room por La Dyke-chess. She no tiene sangre frio. At least no creo La Dyke-chess tiene sangre frio. I will get Señor Loinsauce, and meet you all a la puerta."

“Sounds good,” The Scout nodded, already heading back to the south hall. “Hang out a sec and let me check out those two doors. Then I’ll wave Lil Man and Wyn up.”

The Magic User ‘looked’ up. “Hmm. Are we leaving?  Someone come help me, I'm disabled."

As Abraxas was heading back to help, Wyn motioned to Brendon to wait. “Hm... give me un second Monsieur du Lac. Want to take care of doze doors before we continue.”

The Fighter helped Lannis to his feet, "Señor Lingons, es el tiempo a vamonos.”

“Yeah, I don’t have a tampon, sorry.”

“Sigh. No. Este way.” He sort of pointed, and led the blinded wizard. As they were shuffling along, he asked, “I could put you en mi espalda, como este." He was pointing to his back and hand his arms down like he was going to carry the wizard. Lannis couldn’t see this and was scowling at Abraxas, hands in the air and waving them up and down before pointing at the light spilling out of his eyes.

"Oh! Si... um... get in, no, ON, me, no, mi, no, oh MY... como dices... baaack. Si, mi back. Get on my back and I will carry you.”

“I dunno, does it sound dignified? That’s the sort of shit that gnomes are prone to do, ride needlessly on other people.”

Abraxas then lowered his voice and added, “Y si La Dyke-chess intenta apuñalarte, estare seguro! Es a good plan Señor!"

“I’ll huff it out, thanks anyway. By the way, it's not Dyke-chess it's... Actually, never mind, you nailed it big guy.” He grinned. “Speaking of though, I think Lyra is better built for carrying me on her back."

As they entered the sitting room, Lyra scowled, “Sorry, I don’t think I can carry your fat blind ass.”

“Words, Lyra. Words hurt.”

Wyn made sure the room was empty and then closed the South door of the Adept’s chamber and willed the door to lock. And sure enough, a keyhole appeared. A check showed the door was locked. Smiling, Wyn then reentered the Sitting chamber and shut that door as well before jogging south past Abraxas and Lannis who were tasting the tea to where Kovid and Brendon and Lyra were waiting. “Just wanted to prevent sounds traveling as much as possible.” He drew his shield and Alha’s sword. “Shall we check dis out?”

With his hammer gripped tightly, Kovid smiled following the others into the hall. “Let’s see where the water sound is coming from. Maybe Arik’s handwriting did say Bath.” He pointed down the hall to the door on the north wall that was partially open. “Brendon come check out this door before we go through it. It looks open.”

The Scout nodded and led the way on, pitching his voice low once they were in the hall and out of sight of the Fighter and Magic User. “Do me a favor and no more mention of that book. Doc hasn’t been rude to me in a few days because of my stabbing decision. I really don’t need The Asshole back there to wind him up again.” Both men nodded and followed along, eyes peeled, hearing the sound of running water louder as they closed on the door.

Brendon turned the corner and peered within. The room was pretty big and lit by numerous slowburn candles set on small shelves about the chamber. A large sunken bath capable of holding six was on the far end of the chamber, the floor was made of marble. Peaceful and serene looking pictures were set into the wall, made of broken bits of colorful tile mortared into place. A large silver looking towel rack was on the wall with 4 towels and 4 washcloths on it. By the bath was an ivory soap holder and a tray with what seemed to be from this distance 3 colorful gems , red, blue, and yellow.

Standing by the bath was a goblin woman. She was just a notch under 5’ tall and was wearing an almost blinding white toga shift. One eye was missing and the other was milky white looking. She had scars around her neck, her wrists, and her ankles. One foot was missing 3 toes but she stood there looking at the Scout with a beatific smile and motioned for him to come in. “Enter,” she said, her voice husky and broken sounding as if her throat had been damaged. “I am Candella, matron of the Ispan’s Baths. Come in and get clean, Brendon. Nothing bad will befall you here.”

The Scout turned back to Wyn, Kovid, and Lyra, and mouthed, “What. The. Fuck.”
