PBEM - Episode 319. Bedrooms and Adepts

This was a very long combat for the party and played out over PBEM, it was exhausting. The group needed a break and with the blinding of Lannis and exhaustion of many of their spells, they needed to find a place to hole up and soon.

Follows:

THREE HUNDRED NINETEEN

(I/C)

Brendon crawled out from under the table, covered in blood but looking better after his healing potion. He looked around the room and spotted Kovid wrestling with one Adept while the goblin was racing for the door trying to escape, a held Adept there squealing and squeaking. “Nice work all,” Wyn said, glancing down at his Alha sword. “But scary dere fer a second. Finish off all dat we cen,” he said, stalking towards the last sleeping Adept.

The dwarf had reasserted his grip on the salamander and slammed it back to the ground, his hammer held high. Lyra spat out a wad of blood and gripped her flail tighter, heading off to help the dwarf. Brendon was heading towards the door, his short sword drawn while Abraxas spun his Scythe around and was also heading there.

“Oh,” Wyn called out, “I tink deze short swords from de orcwolf are magical, Salazar. Ye may want to give it to du Lac so he has a magic weapon to use if we need it. Up to you dough. Nice work wit dat scythe... nice and messy.”

“Si!” the Fighter called out, drawing the short blade and handing it to the Scout. "Brian, usas este," he pointed to the held Adept, Brendon nodding in response.

“Did we win? Where did Duchess go?”

“Almost, Big Brain,” Kovid snarled out, slamming his weapon down, trying to get a solid blow in. “Just about there.”

“Okay. Um, someone just come and pick me up when it's time to leave I guess, please. Oh, could somebody get my darts?"

“Uno momento, por favor!”

Finally, Kovid was able to ply his weapon properly, hitting the Adept twice and then a third time, each blow slamming at the weak spots of the Salamander’s armor (>+6 to hit, Yellow 15). It howled and cursed, “Corfard will devour you!” as it tried to return the attack (1d8+3 Damange, Yellow 4+4=7 Damage!), its struggles frantic.

“Hold him still,” Lyra called out, “I’d like to hit one of these bastards finally.” As the dwarf pushed the Adept a bit higher, she swung her flail sidearmed (>+4 to hit, White 19), cracking the humanoid in the upper chest and neck (1d6+1+1 Damage, White 5 – 7 Damage and killed!!), crushing its throat and breaking its neck from the impact. “Aine speed you on your way. Prick.”

"Comes Mierde y Mueres!" Abraxas picked up speed, seeing the Goblin pushing its way past the Adept held in place. The Fighter lunged and stabbed the Scythe down (>+7 to hit, Blue 12), catching the greenskin in the back of the calf. It gibbered and screamed in pain and he dragged it back like an angler reeling in a fish, and shook it off the end of his weapon. The goblin turned around, terror in its eyes as the Morrigaan weapon arced around again (1d8+4 Damage, Blue 6+4 Damage=10 and killed!!), and finished the menial off.

Wyn grinned ferally as he knelt in front of the last sleeping Adept and plunged his short sword into its throat. It woke up gasping and then died instantly. Brendon stalked finally to the held Salamander and sighed, sighting down the weapon and feeling the Alha weapon’s weight and heft. “Nothin personal,” he said, “It’s just business.” He pulled the blade back and added, “We were going to parley, but you guys fucked that all up.” And then he lunged (1d6+1 Damage, Red 6+1=7 Damage!), the blade passing easier and easily through the Adept, the held creature whimpering in terror as it was struck deeply, the Scout blandly pulling the weapon free.

Abraxas frowned, “I thought we weren’t going to hablar with them. Only the Dykstress, si?”

Brendon nodded. “Yeah, I know that.” He turned back to the Adept and smiled. “But they didn’t.” And he struck again (1d6+1 Damage, Red 3+1=4 Damage and killed!). He turned back to Wyn and let the elf know, “Yeah, this sword was really good. Hit well and seemed to do more damage than I’m used to. Can we tell if it’s magic or not?”

“Very soon,” Wyn announced. “Let’s finish killing de sleepers an den see what we can get from dis fucked up situation.” He looked around frowning. “Eet’s not even 8 o clock yet.”

“Sounds good,” the Scout cocked his ear listening (<Hear Noise, Red 07). “It’s quiet. No alarms. No one quite nearby. But I hear…hmmm, running water?” He pointed south through the door. “Let’s check this place over first. Didn’t something fly off the Duchess when you hit her?”

Picking himself off the floor and dusting his platemail knees clean, Kovid wiped his Theystran hammer on the dead Adept and smiled. “Well that... went. Okay, story of our lives folks, we’ve got no time. Grab what you can and let’s skedaddle.”

“I agree,” Brendon pointed south, “I suggest we hurry up in here and exit thru the other barracks.”

“Plus I can update my map,” the dwarf agreed.

“ “Map” “ Lannis offered from the far end of the room.

“Let’s be methodical and not stupid about this people,” Lyra advised. “Anyone find any healing items? We should figure out everything we have at the moment. It’s much too early in the day to be this banged up.”

The Fighter chuckled sadly. “You’re telling me.”

“Assholes and elbows people,” Brendon suggested. “Quick and careful. Let’s get this done. Who knows how long we have.”

The party fanned out, picking up loose items and lost weapons as they looked around. Bodies were turned over and searched quickly and professionally. Wyn looked at the area he fought the Theif and sure enough (<Half Wis, Orange 6), there was a gold bracelet, whole and covered in and intricate crosshatching design. “Found it,” he announced, getting a series of assertive grunts from the rest of the party.

They had picked up all 3 of Lannis’ spent darts but as for arrows, only 1 was still useable. The chest of drawers had robes that smelled of Salamander and were too short for most of the group or in Kovid’s case, not wide enough.

A strange turn of things was the front door back to the hall. It was locked, but there was no key in the lock or found on the floor, and Wyn was pretty damned sure there wasn’t one when he hit it. And Brendon was mostly sure the door was unlocked when they entered.

As for everything else, where there the party hit pay dirt. First it was the plethora of silver coins that kept piling up, 215 in total (Everyone add 36 silver except Lannis, add 35). There were 2 slowburn candles (1/per) found, unused and unburnt. In the back of the room was the Ishtari Crystal box (50) that we had found in the secret room and then was taken from us when the Hobgoblins had found it in the Barracks. Catharandamus was wearing platemail armor(500), and given the High Cleric’s size and breadth of chest, the armor could fit Abraxas if wanted to wear it instead of his Bandedmail.

Also on the High Cleric was a copy of the Throne Room key, a match for the one that Wyn already was carrying.

But the best of all were the items found in his personal belongings as well as the locker by his bed. There were 3 Healing potions (5), a vial of water that Lyra examined and smiled softly. “It’s Holy Water,” she said almost reverently.

And lastly were 4 scrolls of the Divine power. Review of them revealed them to be 2 Cure Light Wound Scrolls (1/per), a Scroll of Bless (1) and a Scroll of Silence 15’ radius (1).

With all the findings and treasures piled together, we looked the lot over and had to make decisions on what we were going to use right now, what we were taking, and who was taking it.

Time now is Day 8, 8:10 AM

Good luck and time is ticking until someone comes to see what the hell is going on.

And a reminder – Lannis is STILL blind – best he can do is walking speed with help.
