PBEM, Episode 55 - Doors, Ape, Key #1

FIFTY FIVE

(I/C)
Extinguishing the torch after returning to the group (Lannis reduce torch to 30 mins remaining) they discussed the ape and what they had seen.

“Yea, no.,” Lyra said, “We’re leaving the ape alone. If we need to get past it at any point we better bring it a snack.”

“I agree with Lyra,” Brendon offered, “Next time we come here we bring food.”

Abraxas shrugged. "Perhaps the ape gives us an opportunity, amigos. We can see if the Gorgon head works, by holding it in front of the creature. If it doesn't work, then we can feed the Gorgon head to the Ape, either way, at least one problem solved.”

“Thor’s mighty marbles, I’ve never seen an ape before,” Kovid sighed.

“But what area next then?” Lyra asked, looking back the way we came. “I feel like every direction we know we have left is a direction that is potentially dangerous.”

“What about the doors,” Lannis asked.

“Oh wait, there’s that steam room right?” Lyra smacked her forehead. “I vote we go in there. That sounds nice. And safe.”

Meanwhile Wyn looked to the west. “Dere must be a way passed de ape... we find it later. For now, we go wit Monsieur Salazar’s gut en try de right door first. For-may-shun 1, oui?”

Brendon frowned. “The steam room seems a good place to check out. I’d use the hot tub.”

“But, that’s the left door,” Abraxas said.

“Yeah, Doc.”

“But, I want to go to the RIGHT door. Any other door isn’t right, hence it’s left and wrong, si?”

“No, my massive manling friend,” Kovid said with a rock to his step. “I agree the steam door is the next logical place to explore.” He cleared his throat and proceeded to sing, “Give me steam, And how you feel to make it real, Real as any place you've been, Get a life with the dreamer's dream.”

“No, Right door.”

“No, LEFT door.”

“RIGHT.” “LEFT.” “That one.” “That one!”

The group took to discussing it at length with Lannis (>Cha, Pink 16 (fail by 9)), Abraxas (>Cha, Blue 15 (fail by 3)), and Wyn (<Cha, Orange 10 (succeed by 1)) who were pushing for the Right door without the steam while Lyra (>Cha, White 19 (fail by 10)), Brendon (>Cha, Red 18 (fail by 5)), and Kovid (<Cha, Blue 8 (succeed by 2)) discussed the merits of either location first. (net -11, vs -13). It took some doing but eventually the group was able to havethe consensus to open the RIGHT door first as it was the one without the steam coming from the bottom.

Abraxas grabbed the handle, shield at the ready, and opened the door in and to the left steady and hard. Revealing a room that was clean and well made. It was roughly 30’ x 20’ with an cut out in the south east corner. Along the west wall was a nice looking oaken cabinet covered with symbology to Ishtari upon its surface. It was closed. The floor was white marble with veins of black and gold running through it. Along the south east wall was a closed door.

Kovid and Brendon entered with care, looking around and making sure there were no surprises waiting for the party. The dwarf (<Stonework, Yellow 1) was pretty happy with the marble work and commented on the skill the elves had doing it. Even though they were elves. Meanwhile Brendon gave the room a once over looking for traps (>Find traps, Red 43) feeling confident there were none. The cabinet was closed, stood about 6’ tall, double door, and smelled faintly of soap.

Lastly he went to the southeast door and listened (<Hear Noise +20%, Red 26) just faintly hearing some sort of the flapping noise gently against standing water. It alternated fast, then slow, then nothing for a while.

(OOC)
I got conflicting direction on what to do. So I left it up to the random gods – and it was a tie for a CHA check, 2 failed 1 success on each side. So I went deeper to see how much the fail was by to come up with a winner.

What to do next? Cabinet is closed and not locked. What’s the plan?
