PBEM, Episode 53 - Doors, Ape, Key #1

FIFTY THREE
(I/C)
“So... what. Balance of four?” Lyra asked. “So we’re missing a queen of monsters. How many crowns do you want to bet that statue walked right out of this room. Doesn’t look like they took it out. She just walked out and we’re very unfortunately going to find her later. And probably more Gorgons.”

“What’s with you and gorgons?” Lannis replied. ‘It’s all you’ve gone on about.”

“And I was right, wasn’t I?”

"Thinking we are all done here amigos,” Abraxas offered, tying the sack with the medusa head closed (add medusa head(30) to Lg sack) Let's get a move on, eh?"

Lannis handed out a number of items to everyone one. Kovid, Abraxas and Brendon each took a healing potion (add 1 Healing Potion (5) to sheet), and Wyn was given the potion of Charm Animal (add Charm Animal potion (5) to sheet). The Poison Atomizer was given to Brendon (add Poison Atomizer – 4 uses (10) to sheet), while Wyn took the 4 Prayer Books and added them to his wooden box (add Prayer Books – 4 (10/each) to sheet). And lastly Lannis took the Eye of Ishtari crate after removing the page and placing it in his spell book (add Ishtari Crate (50) to sheet).

"I'll take these for now, everyone else can take what they're taking,” Lannis said, “I have no particularly strong opinions on any of it right now. I do wonder what was in this book that was so worthy of destruction. Could it be related to the missing statue, the strained magical weave, and the weakening of the shield? Mysteries, mysteries."

"Monseiur Offop,” Wyn began, “do ye tink dat de connection between deze trois statues en de missing Monsta goddess statue could be traced some'ow? Do ye see any special connection between de trois besides de enchantment lookin' sickly en weak?"

“How much longer on your detection spell?”

“Not long, mon ami. Dix a quinze minutes, tops.”

“Then let’s go.” The party drew up in line and proceeded their way south. As they walked, Kovid was practicing the swing of his new warhammer. “Thor's Hard Salami,” he swore, eliciting a groan from the Magic User. Ignoring him, the dwarf continued, “This hammer feels BEAUTIFUL.” Glancing at Lyra he added ,”A fraction of the beauty of the Goddess Theystra herself perhaps. It's a shame her statue is so damaged.... I bet this hammer would look great shattering Jowass's jaw bone."

“Oh my god, there you go on about a kobold that doesn’t exist.” Lannis scowled

“Senor?” Abraxas asked, looking around, “Did you say, Gowan?”

“What?” He grunted. “Not you too. Stop feeding into mister beardy’s craziness, ok?”

The passage had traveled south for at least 30 paces before coming to a set of crude rises and step carved into the stone. Unlike the other areas, these were not traditional stairs but there was evidence that it had been used for climbing before. Wyn, Kovid, and Brendon went first, going up the 20’ till they leveled out and seeing the area was clear, motioned the rest of the group to join them.

The area up here was at a canted angle from the passage up, and the floor seemed to be in better condition in some places and rippling shattered in others. To the south were two doors, both closed, the left most door had some steam trickling out from beneath it. The corridor did continue to the west. Brendon (<Hear Noise +20, Red 07) was able to hear some faint metal, like chains, rattling lightly on stone. It echoed so it wasn’t close by, but close enough to be heard. In addition, there was a faint moaning whistle of wind. He gave the doors a once over as well (>Find traps, Red 68) but a quick look showed nothing to be concerned about.

“Hmm,” Kovid offered. “We heard that before when we came down the steps around the Lower Barracks, remember?” He pointed to the west. “I would assume that eventually this passage joins up there.” Both he and Wyn looked around the open area they were in (Detect Secret Doors: Orange 2, Yellow 2) confident that there were no surprised waiting for them.

However, through both doors were a faint glimmer that somewhere past the doors was SOMETHING magical through them. “Ah ha!” Wyn said, “Zere is more magic through there somewhere, eh?”

Lyra pointed near the ceiling over both doors where carved into the stone was the name “Ishtari”.

Time now is 8:55
(OOC)
Ok – two doors here. Left door (looking at the two of them) has some warm steam (NOT HOT!) coming trickling out the bottom. The word ISHTARI is over the middle of both doors, and from the last of the Detect Magic Spell, there is something magical beyond both/either portal. What to do?
