PBEM - Episode 434. Gas of a time!

It was time for another potion use and solo adventuring moment - this time the enterprising Lannis, Party Magic User, was going to make the run. It was here they learned that travel via Gaseous Form is VERY SLOW.

Follows:

FOUR HUNDRED THIRTY FOUR

(I/C)

Lannis looked at the cabinet. “If we’re going to open it, we’re going to need to get Brendon’s Brass ball.”

“It’s really far from here,” Kovid muttered.

“Like all the way where the ghouls are now, right?” Lyra asked

Abraxas nodded grimly. "Amigos, usamos mas cuidado. Let's go get Brevon's Brass pelota. It means going past los Roberts, si? Y que about los Ghouls? Listamos a Turn y Luchar con them? Do we need SeƱora Leyora a rest, primero?"

The dwarf glanced past Brendon and down the unstable hall, beard bristling. “Are we heading out to fight the hobs?”

“Perhaps,” Lannis shook his head, muttering with the elf, the two magic users talking animatedly to one another.

Idly fingering her holy symbol, Lyra had an uncomfortable expression. “Soooo, anyone else feel like fucking with the ghouls is a bad idea. No? Just me?”

Nodding in agreement and looking through his half empty quiver, Brendon said, “Lyra has a point, ghouls are a bad idea.”

Giving him a smile in appreciation, the Clerci replied, “Okay then.”

Kovid was listening to the two men as they were finishing their conversation, and asked, “Hold on. Wyn, you have a plan involving gas?”

“Oui. I tink it might be best if Monsieur Offop drink de gaseous form potion and go to explore de hob area and de ghoul area. Den if’n he’s already done it, he can den use de Crystal Ball later as he knows ‘bout dem.”

Walking up to the Scout, Lannis snapped his fingers twice and pointed to the open palm of his hand, “Okay, give me the potion, chop chop.”

Brendon slowly took it out, “yeah,” he said, giving the Magic User a blank and piercing stare. “Please would be nice.”

“Yes, it would,” he answered, snatching it and then turning to the elf. “I'll go out and do some exploring. Wyn, you're the closest thing I have to responsible around here, so hold on to my rod just in case something happens to me, at least you guys will be able to get into the vault. I expect it back when I get back though.” HE let his voice drop half an octave as he drew the items out of the backpack. His gaze slid over to the Scout, “Because it's mine. Don't let Brendon have it."

“Oui, Offop, I will be careful wit de weapon.” He glanced over at Lyra and then asked, “You want to leave dat manacrystal and crystal ball here too? Don’t want those to be lost. May need them to get you back if sometin happens to you too.”

Thinking it over briefly, Lannis nodded in agreement and took out the crystal ball and the manastone as well. "Yeah fine, just be careful with the crystal ball, she's a classy broad. Give the stone to the horse, I'm not done being mad at her so I don't want to give her any items or carrots."

Wyn was holding the ball and the rod, turning red as Lannis and Kovid began to chuckle, before putting them away and shaking his hands clean. Before Lannis could drink the potion, Wyn added, “We wait in dis tinkerin game room while you be away. If we not be ‘ere... den we be in de chapel area, or we leave you secret message only big brain cen figure out.”

“Use crayon,” he retorted before tilting the vial back and drinking deep.

“Good luck, mon ami.”

We watched as Lannis finished the Gaseos Form potion and then quickly faded from view until he a vaguely amorphous cloud of slow moving vapor just hanging there (Duration: 1d6+6 turns: Green 5+6=11 turns!!). It then moved into the hallway and procceded to make its way north very slowly until shortly it was indistinct and gone from sight.

“Well,” Wyn plucked the Manastone from the pile of Lannis’ belongings and handed it to Lyra, “Offop wanted you to hold this for him.”

“Great,” Lyra said (add to magic inventory)

“He says he’s sorry...”

The party all looked at one another and then laughed together at his absence, heading back into the game room and closing the door.

*This is so damned strange* Lannis tried to say, but nothing came out, however he felt the words. His vision was both better and worse. He had instant pivoting at 180 degrees of view, however he was limited to about 30’. And stumbling about in the darkness didn’t help much as he couldn’t see in the dark per se, however he could “feel” things in the near area as it displaced the air he was moving through.

*Moving on to moving on* he said, as he made the slow trek north. He passed the ruined door on the western side of the hall and realized that in his current state he could easily enter the room beyond by passing through the cracks which to him felt like wide open doorways. *Maybe when I come back* he thought, and kept going.

It was slow and he had to force himself to move, exerting something but not sure what. It was about 10 minutes before he made it to the end of the hall and the door that turned to Duchess room, when he went west and stopped.

*Wow* he exclaimed.

He could “see” there were 8 hobgoblins here, but his body was displaced by another two that were not visible. They looked grim and were waiting here, a variety of weapons at the ready but not limited to swords, shields, spears, and two of them with bows. One of them was wearing better than the banded leather and chainmail that the other rank and file were clad in, and one more, a larger and meaner looking hobgoblin, was wearing a set of platemail and sporting a shield and angrily looking notched sword, his armor was festooned with dragon scales and different trophies and fetishes.

“Creega des ach cahilar?” One of them asked in goblin, shuddering slightly and looking around.

There were some negative grunts and Lannis sieved past them as he moved on west and then north, making his way slowly to the “T” intersection and then pushed his way West. *Gotta make sure I get back soon after I check on the Ghouls.*

Meanwhile, Brendon had been gathering stones and after he sorted them and arranged to make a decent pile of some of the larger ones, went over to Lyra who was laying out some of the games and asked, “Lass, if yurrr not be needin tha sling would you be passin it this way?”

“Sure,” Lyra replied.

“Why do you need de sling, Du Lac?” Wyn asked pointing to Brendon’s quiver. “You ‘ave ‘alf a quiver o arrows still.”

“I have nine, and no guarantee we’ll get more soon.”

Kovid shook the full quiver he had and frowned. “Are you forgetting? I have a full quiver of arrows, 20 of them, that I’ve been carrying for days to refill if either of you need it. Don’t chuck a rock if you don’t have to, just ask.”

“Oh! Great then,” Brendon was looking at the game Lyra was setting up. “Hope Big Brain hurries back.”

Lannis was indeed making headway, pushing himself west down the “T” intersection and proceeding past the two doors leading to the Summoning Room and the Garden. *Just keep swimming, just keep swimming* he muttered idly as he moved on. He arrived at the 4 archways and turned to the north, noting that it seemed quiet down here and there were no lights visible to the west in the hobgoblin area. He was making his way north and pushing his way down the dark hall, just coming upon the former Ogre room.

“So I’ll take the knight.”

“You can’t, that’s a black bishop. He has to stay on the black squares.”

“You sure?”

“Very.”

“I don’t know, I think I’d remember if he fell off at some point.”

“By Thor, Methinks you’re cheating Scout. Trying to get one over on the Lass?”

“No. No. Alright then. I’ll just take the rook.”

“Dats a black bishop, Monsieur. She already told you it had to stay on de noir squares.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.””YES.” “Oui.” “Aye!”

The Magic User kept going, the long hall was numbing as he pushed and clawed and forced his body to head on through the long passage. It took some time but eventually he arrived at the end where it “T’ed” and the Magic User turned to the west and headed in that direction. Before he could make it to the door, he could “smell” something foul and rotting as the odor permeated his entire gaseous form. *Gods DAMN it! I am floating in a stink here!*

Taking a moment to orient himself, he could see there were body parts fully gnawed clean off the bones here, and two..four..five foul scented humanoid bodies lying about the floor, stomachs full and distended, smearing rotting blood and other gore off of congealed pools on the floor and wiping it across their mouths. *Well, I’d say I found the ghouls.* He noted. One of the closest ones turned at his “voice”, and fixed its gaze firmly on him. *Oh shit* he said, noting that the ghoul then bared its teeth and squinted slightly.

He floated back and was happy to see that the ghoul did not track his movements before reorienting himself the way he came and pushing his way back to the “T” and then south once more. Once out of visible range of the undead, Lannis muttered quietly, *Took me a half hour to get here, going to take me a half hour to get back*

“I want to build a road.”

“Den you’ll need brick and wood.”

“I have ore and wood.”

“Ye need brick.”

“Can I make a shitty road with the ore?”

“No, brick.”

“Well Lyra’s using these shitty dice, and they haven’t rolled a 4 yet, so I don’t have any brick.”

“Tough stuffin’ den.”

“Come on, trade with me. I’ll give you 2 sheep for a brick.”

“No going. Dunt need de sheep. I’ll take de wood dough.”

“I need it for the road.”

“Dats not my problem.”

“Oh for Aine’s sake. You have 7 damned ore. Just trade 4 of them for a brick and get it done already.”

“I can do that? Don’t I need a harbor?”

“Du Lac. I get de feeling dat rules and lissening to dem is an optional aspect o your life, Oui?”
