FOUR HUNDRED THIRTY ONE
(I/C)
Brendon gave an absent tilt of his head. “Hey Lannis, why not take a peek at something with the crystal ball?”
“Hey Brendon, why don’t you let your friend die while you steal some sleeping guy’s wallet?” He snapped back. “I’ll use the Crystal Ball when I well it is the most opportune time. Like in the middle of a fight when you could use my help.”
Looking over Kovid’s map, Abraxas idly spun his Scythe and suggested, "Amigos, we should head out. Grumtush is going to smell el fuego soon. We should move before he goes on the move. Perhaps the south east hall? Or do we want to make a move on los Roberts? Either way, soy listo!"
Giving the map her own glance, Lyra agreed with a vigorous nod. “I’m a fan of heading to the chapel for now. Maybe from there we can figure out who or what is where with a good scry.” She gave the Magic User a short shove, “Make Lannis useful for that diamond he wasted.”
"I wasted?” The Magic User replied with a hand on his chest. “Now listen here Apocalypse Pony, you should feel honored to bring me back to the land of the living.”
“Ugh…So honored,” she snorted.
“Hmmph,” he folded his arms across his chest. “Otherwise I agree with going to the church, should have thought of it myself.”
“Guess south it ees den.” Wyn and his double helped usher the group out of the vault as he locked it up again. “Time to add de southeast hallway from de map.”
Rolling the map up, Kovid picked up the Theystran Hammer and gave it a toss, catching it by the handle. “Wooo feeling good after that potion. Getting my mojo back. Time to kill some uglies.”
“Sure, let’s thief around…I mean SCOUT around over there,” Lannis sighed, “Let Kovid fill in what he claims is a map. Perhaps he should mark down the location of his mojo, before he loses it again."
“You’d think death would have smoothed out his rougher edges,” Brendon suggested.
“I tink it made him a bit more prickly,” the elf noted.
“I’m not the prick here,” Lannis replied, “I just point them out.”
Giving the south secret door a quick listen (no roll needed), we opened it up, Wyn taking the point, indicating, “While I ‘ave de extra Image, I know it can and will be useful, Oui?” Once through, Abraxas closed it behind us and we made our way through the Summoning room to the south door. From there the short hall led us to the main hall where a (WMC: Red/Black 1) more intense listening (>Hear Noise, +15 somewhat quiet, Red 67) had Brendon give the thumbs up.
Wyn opened the door and we checked the hall, both ways, before turning east and making our way to the “T” intersection. (5th Continual Heal surge 1d4+1: Blue 3+1 = Abraxas Heal 4!) The Fighter gave a long sigh as more of his hurts faded away. “Feeling better, Big Guy” Lyra asked.
“Si. Mucho Bueno. Gracias.” The thumped his chest and smiled.
We made our way with care south of the intersection and proceeded to where the passage took a further turn east and then south again, the door on the east wall eventually leading to the Duchess and Mirabellis’ quarters. From here it was a long walk south. Koivd kept up a steady count as we moved on, past various doors on the east and west side, coming in time to the passage hall that lead to the north side of the Sanctuary, the double doors on the west side of the hall which looked like they were not going to open, and then eventually the set of doors on the east side.
As we moved on, the state of the hall running south grew poorer as busted stones from the ceiling and walls were broken and crumbled, some of them ground deep into the floor making long furrows. There was eventually another double door on the west side, this one fire scarred and the walls and ceiling around it had long gouges many feet long as well a good inch or two deep, running in 4 parallel line sets in various places. At this moment Wyn’s image faded away and the elf slid back to his customary place in line, getting some thanks from Brendon and Kovid, and a long pointed stare from the Magic User.
“Dragon?” Kovid asked very quietly. The rest of the group nodded. A short look at the door made the dwarf uncomfortable (stonework, no roll needed). “This door is in terrible shape and the lintel is barely holding it together. See how it sags? The entire ceiling and wall is pressing on this. I’d need a team of masons and maybe a 300 foot set up of pulleys and ropes before I’d even risk it – my 2 coppers.”
“So door that will kill us if we open it,” Lyra noted. “Sounds like a 5,000 crown mistake. I’d say leave it alone.”
Beyond the double door, on the east side at the end of the hall, was a single lonesome door. There was quite a bit of fallen rock and detritus in the area, but on the door was a goblin fetish marking and both Wyn and Brendon looked it over, noting some of the characters on it. “It’s marked as a warning not to enter.”
“Oui. By de Smallpox. Says private.”
“Does it indicate what we should do if he’s either dead, or I don’t give a fuck what he thinks?” Lannis asked.
Brendon was giving it a once over (>Search, Red 79) while Kovid was looking back up the hall and counting out slowly. “Slow paces,” the dwarf muttered. “73 of them. Hmmm. From the back north wall turn at Duchess’ room to this wall here,” he tapped the south wall. “A good 160 feet.” (helping you out Kovid so you at least have the map right)
The Scout was wrapping up and after a few minutes said, “Ok. No traps. Door isn’t locked, opens away from us and to the right. Don’t hear anything inside, and everything around here smells a bit like crushed stone.” He looked around. “We going in?”
