TWO HUNDRED TWENTY FOUR
(I/C)
Taking a deep breath, Kovid looked around the room and smiled, “We’ll we either go fight some bugs or we go up. I’m game for either. This view is nice though.”
Brendon held his hand up. “Why doncha guys hang out in the hall while I check out the room.” The party watched and waited as the Scout walked slowly around the room, tapping the floor and peering in the corners as well as under the stairs (>Find Trap, Red 89).
Lannis was looking at the windows with a critical eye. "There must be some kind illusion around this room that makes it blend in with the rest of the castle from the outside. Stupid castle elves, always think they’re so damn clever."
“Gasp!” Lyra exclaimed with a smirk. “Someone more clever than you Lannis? Never.”
“I know, right?”
After a few minutes Brendon motioned the rest of the group to come in where they entered and proceeded to look about. Kovid went to the north window first, frowning as he did so (Stonework Dwarf, no roll). There is no way the ceiling and possible room above us could be supported by the density of whatever glass it is that takes up almost 30’ of wall on two sides of this chamber.”
“Um…Magic?”
“Seriously though, I’d be concerned at some point that the enchantment would fade,” Kovid reached out to gently touch the window and get a feel for how much pressure the glass might be under when his fingers encountered rough castle stone instead. The image around his touch became disturbed and darkened, becoming mortared stone in about a 3’ diameter area before it slowly turned translucent and eventually appeared as clear glass again.
“Now THAT is some cool magic,” Lyra nodded.
“GlassStone,” Lannis muttered (Magic User, Int>15, no roll). “Pretty high level spell. There is the same sort of thing for steel as well.” He sighed. “Castle is built by nerds.”
“Castle envy?” the Cleric mocked.
“Not even close. Mine will not have this elven feel to it and will have the mastery of understated grace and power as benefited of someone of my station.”
“Whatever.” She wandered over to the elven cleric in the northwest corner. She noted his age and wear as well as his pose and expression. “Gonna definitely say the Medusa did this to this poor soul.”
“Moira?” Wyn asked as he was looking upstairs.
“No. It’s older. Same time as the elves in the dining room. The one who had her face smashed in.” She idly traced her hand across his stone face and sighed. “Poor elf guy. I wonder what it’s like being trapped in stone for an eternity. Can’t be nice.”
"I imagine the first decade or two are pretty rocky,” Lannis quipped, “until you hit rock bottom that is. After that though it's smooth as slate, lots of time really mine the depths of your psyche."
“Hm,” Wyn was rubbing his chin, “It be very odd dat all deze Medusa victims are still around standing around like dis. I wonder if it be Corfard who demands dey all be left alone to keep humiliating dem. Hm..."
“He is a dick,” Lannis shrugged.
Wyn had been looking up the stairs and was sure that light, the same as we had here, was also coming from up there as well, but without climbing more than 3 or 4 steps up, there was no way to know for sure.
Brendon had been conferring with Kovid about the outside world and the relative time, confident that the image shown is most likely the current view and time and not a static image. “This would be a great place to sleep for the night. We’d have moonlight to save on oil and we might be able to see what’s happing below or the town over yonder.”
The Magic User raised one brow and scoffed, "Sleep? Here? The steps up are right there,” he pointed, “if they heard us they could drop right on top of our heads."
“Calm down, nimrod,” Brendon sighed wearily, “I didn’t say WE should sleep here, I said this would be a great place to sleep, jeez.”
"Sleep is a few hours off,” Abraxas assured the party. “I say we find out some other place to lay our cabezas. Me no gusta not knowing what is in that Locustses room.”
“Focused on that still, eh?” Lannis chuckled.
“Si. Its my yob to keep you safe. And a room full of Lorcustorus at our back isn’t safe.”
“Just noting it, Roadblock. No need for panty wadding.”
“Sigh,” The Fighter continued, pointing up the stairs. “Pero, we must press on ahora. Vamonos, amigos, let's carve up some more of this upstairs, so Señor Korpsesis can get more details on that map."
“We done here?” Brendon asked.
Time now is Day 6, 2:53 PM
