PBEM - Episode 177, Honey and Entrances

 ONE HUNDRED SEVENTY SEVEN

(I/C)

“Ah, the front gate,” Kovid noted, taking out his notebook, “I don’t want to mess with anything here quite yet... what do you all think? I’ll mark it on the map.”

“Nice not getting involved there, Kovid,” Lannis noted, walking in slowly towards the portcullis. “I’ll check out the pulley system here.”

Looking around, Lyra whispered, “Should we just go in or... maybe knocking Is more polite? I’d like to avoid another fight honestly,” before making her way over to the three jars, Wyn and Abraxas following right behind.

“I’d like to check out zee urine smell,” Wyn whispered, “See where it coming from.”

“Lannis.”

“Pardon?”

Abraxas pointed at the wizard. “It’s coming from him.” He was holding one of the jars and sniffing while Lyra was opening another one. “I thought la Beeskipper kept his urine in a jar, but now I can see no. Let’s see what's in those jars and go say 'hola' to El Yailer.”

“Ah,” Wyn said, “Zhen ignore zee urine thing then.”

“De nada,” Abraxas replied. He nudged the cleric with his leg, “Señorita Lorta anything good in there?”

Lyra had managed to open one of the jars and was sniffing inside, dipping her finger in hungrily. "Lyra,” Lannis admonished from across the room, “don't drink whatever is in those jars please.”

“Wow, Lannis,” she answered haughtily, “You are NOT my supervisor. And it’s honey. Real fresh bee made natural great honey. You don’t DRINK it,” she stuck her finger in her mouth and licked it off. “You EAT it.” She put the cover back on and smiled, “Jar of honey, worth 10 crowns on the docks at Specularum.” She smiled, “This one I’ll carry.” (add quart jar of honey [10]) to inventory)

“Excellent,” Wyn echoed (Wyn and Abraxas do the same, add 1 quart jar of honey [10] to sheet). After stashing his own, he wandered over to the weapon rack when Brendon had finished gathering the loose arrows.

The Scout was looking through his pack and moaned. “I can’t carry any more arrows and I’d hate to leave them here. Can anyone carry them?”

“Ah kin take two of zem,” Wyn said (max arrows – 20 [10]).

“I’m starting to think I’m a walking junk yard, but that mirror is like a god send,” he picked it up, spinning it and giving the steel a rap. Rummaging around his pack he went to Abraxas and offered the Fighter the fur hat he picked up, “Abraxas, this hat is kinda too big for me. I can give it you if you want it as I guess a reminder of that bear you took out?”

Abraxas gave it a once over and then handed it back, “Nah, gracias anyway. Why would I want a fur of a random animal on my head? If it's a trophy from a kill, that's one thing. Otherwise what's the point?” He pointed back to the hall. “Are those candles ok to take?”

Brendon nodded, “All good.”

“Excellente.” He clapped his hands, ”Let's take those candles. Also, I can carry those arrows, but Señor Laintass would probably be the most useful to carry since he is nearer to the back with our archers.”

Meanwhile Wyn was looking over the grey large sacks (<Wis check, Orange 7), running them through his fingers and frowning. “Bafflement,” he muttered. “Dyed grey. Three dips, dye is thick.” He looked inside. “Strange.” He ran his fingers through the interior. “Pulls, lots of little pulls on the threads from the inside of the bag, not the outside. All three of them.” He brought the bag closer and took a smell. “Smells like…sand…hot sand…and lizard…and maybe rose petals?”

Lannis had given the portcullis his once over and was now looking at the rope sticking out of the wall. “Portcullis is in great shape, well oiled, and shows no sign of rust. I’d say the denizens of the Castle use it often and repeatedly which makes me NOT want to be fucking around at their front door any longer than we have to.” He fingered the rope (<Int check, Pink 17), “as for this doozie, it’s an alarm pull bell similar to the one that Travis the spy had in his secret room. Except that one rung something on the 2nd floor.” He pointed at the wall here and shook his head. “This little gem rings an alarm on THIS floor and east of here. So let’s not pull it or fuck with it.”

“Ok then,” Kovid said, hammer up and at the ready. “Outside door, Lannis is taking the arrows, we’re snagging 12 candles on the way out (Lannis add 12 more slowburn candles [12] to inventory), and we took the 3 jars of crazy beekeeper honey. Let’s go people.”

Holding the steel mirror up on its handle, Brendon added, “And I took this as well!” (Add 2’ steel mirror/handle [30] to inventory)

“Great,” Lannis sighed, “But I still don’t think you know how mirrors really work.”
