PBEM, Episode 141 - Orcs, Zombies, Goblins

 ONE HUNDRED FORTY ONE

(I/C)

“Loose de stones en projectiles, mes amis,” Wyn suggested , loading up another stone, “I tink it be betta iffin dat gob not get away.” He let the rock fly (<+3 to hit, -2 penalty light, Orange 6) but it missed the running goblin.

“Not on my watch!” Abraxas snarled, ripping his sword free and charging down the hall, weapon waving. "Muerte Verde, the Green Death, will take you now, Monster!”

Seeing Abraxas run, Wyn’s stone sly, and even Lyra gearing up to sling a rock, Brendon opted not to emerge and give chase, instead he pulled his stone tipped javelin out and threw that instead at the running greenskin (<+4 to hit, -2 penalty light, -1 penalty cold, Red 6) but the weapon went wide. “Yeah...,” he muttered to himself, “and I’m the one that doesn’t listen.”

Lannis had pulled his staff around and was heading down the hall to dispatch sleeping goblins when he asked Lyra, “You coming?”

She scoffed, swinging her sling overhead, “No! This is like a competition to see who takes out the last one,” and let the rock fly (>+2 to hit, -2 light penalty, White 19) where it ‘thowcked’ hard against the goblin’s skull (1d3 Damage, White 4 – 2 Damage!). “Point to me!” she cheered.

At this point, running across the sleeping goblins, his heavy boots kicking them and stomping on them, Abraxas gave a small leap at the end and brought his sword up and around (>+5 to hit, -4 weapon swap, Blue 20, Critical, max damage: 8+2 – 10 damage and killed!) where it caught the goblin on the side of the head and arced down and through, decapitating the greenskin and making a fountain of blood burst up as the figure ran three more steps before the rest of the body fell over dead. “Say hello to Nerfgal for me,” he quipped breathing hard.

Lannis had come up to the first sleeping goblin and brought his staff around and slammed it down on the sleeping greenskin’s head. "Actually Abraxas it's pronounced ‘Herbal’,” Lannis said, bending down to retrieve his dart (Total up to 7 again). “He's a god of decay worshiped by some of the more monstrous races that live in our world. Quite foul and oh!” he shook his head as Abraxas continued down the hall to where the head had rolled and picked it up to bring back, “There he goes. Why am I blessed with such knowledge if not to correct others? Surely it can't be to kill sleeping goblins, yet here I am. Hmm, maybe Wyn would be interested...actually... no... no..." he trailed off.

“I don’t tink deze gobs care bout dat rot god, Salazar,” Wyn noted, rewinding his sling to put away. “Dey care more bout dat odder god you want ta trow into de fire.... actually, you know what? Non important. Dey cen all suck de ‘airy balls of de tunder god de Dwarf admires so much,” he chuckled. “Very interestin background bout dat god, dough, Offop. What do you tink Priestess?”

“Offop interesting?” Lyra shrugged, “Hardly, compared to Aine.”

“Not de Magic User, de god Nergal,” Wyn said.

“Oh!” Lyra smacked herself in the forehead, “Sorry, blonde moment.”

“Not quite blonde and your moments last 3 decades?” Lannis asked.

“Sure, about as long as your virginity it seems,” she fired back. “As for Nurgle,” she said slowly, enunciating the god’s name (Preist Wis>12, no roll), “he’s the Lord of Decay and the Plaguebearer. There’s a chant I know that his armies sing. It goes: ‘Buboes, phlegm, blood and guts! Boils, bogeys, rot and pus! Blisters, fevers, weeping sores! From your wounds the fester pours.’ “

Brendon shuddered, “Sounds lovely.”

“I didn’t write it. Followers of Nurgle are fucking gross.”

Kovid brought his hammer up and smashed it into the nearest sleeping goblin’s head, bursting it and sending gore everywhere. “Nurgle or not, Now this is the kind of green slime I like!" he chuckled.

"Actually Kovid goblins bleed red, not green,” Lannis said, heading to the next snoring goblin. “It has to do with their etymology. They're mammals, like you or I. And...Kovid? Kovid are you listening? It's like he doesn't even want to learn.”

"Their skin is green, Lannis,” he pointed down at the flattened goblin, “And now smashed to slime. Green slime. Disappointing that I would have to explain to you manling, but not surprising."

"Ah, I understand now,” Lannis said with an exaggerated voice, “See I must have been confused because that's clearly a paste, not a slime. See, amongst the magisters and intelligencia of this world the difference between the two can be as wide as producing a powerful potion, and mixing a malignant miasma. Food for thought Kovid, or rather…beer for thought I suppose.”

Beard bristling, Kovid shrugged his shoulders and moved to the next goblin. "If I said 'now that's the kind of green paste I like' the humor would have been lost. Much like my patience with this conversation."

The group went through the dead bodies, making sure they were all slain, rifled through their pockets and gathered up what they could find. The goblins fought with stone headed axes and poor quality short swords. Going through their pouches and what not, they were able to find 3 hairy bits of half chewed hard candy, a severed raccoon paw that was beginning to spoil, a long brown turkey feather that had been folded in thirds and (2+4=6x8 = 48) 48 Silver pieces. “It’s something,” Brendon said, dividing the piles quickly into 8 each (everyone add 8 silver and adjust weight).

In addition, Abraxas, Kovis, and Brendon all reclaimed their hurled daggers and javelins (no breakage yet) and as for sling stones (1d10: 6: Red 5, Orange 13, White 19) there were 1 stone Brendon found (updated total is 5), 2 stones Wyn found (updated total is 4), and 3 stones Lyra found (updated total is 6).

“Ok,” Lyra said looking around. “Are we going to leave this hall looking like a charnel house and abattoir or are we going to drag these dead somewhere else? Old Slime room? Throw down the sulfur steps? Room that used to have the ballista in it?”

“Si, si,” Abraxas nodded his head looking north. “Plus mi amigos, we did say we were going to go to the slime barrel and burn the last of it away before the malo orcs or anyone else gets it.”
