PBEM, Episode 12 - Hall and Kobold Library

TWELVE

(I/C)

Brendon turned to Lyra and muttered, “I HATE Being right,” while rapidly sheathing his long bow and drawing his short sword in one fluid movement.

Lyra, dancing backwards while Lannis was weaving his fingers together and muttering under his breath, dropped her cudgel back to her belt and unwound her sling. “Dammit I hate when you’re right, too!”

While the air was crackling around the Magic-User’s hands, he turned his attention on the kobolds assaulting the group and shouted in the raspy inhuman draconic tongue, “Krizz! Kal thak mik ton!” (Halt! Come no further!) But the kobolds didn’t respond to the threat. So instead he pulled his hands up, linked his fingers together, and finished whatever spell he had started, shooting a pulse of arcanic energy at the charging kobold (<Save vs Spells, Red/Black: 1) who skittered forward one step and froze in place, Paused (reduce # of cantrips by 1).

Abraxis yelled out, “Señor Offphth, get behind me! I'm coming Wendy!!” as he went to intercept the now still kobold.

“No! Lannis shouted! Leave that one, he’s frozen for now!”

“Aye!”

Across the room, Kovid eyed both kobolds and turned his attention to the one on the left, seeing Brendon stepping forward to help. “Kobolds, prepare to be Ko-Dead!” The dwarf hit the kobold with his war hammer, the heavy weapon moaning as it whistled through the air, clipping the enemy a few times, but the little ankle biter was too fast for the dwarf to get a solid blow in (<+2 to hit, Yellow 5).

Meanwhile the second one was trying to thrust at Kovid when Brendon came stepping up, “From Hell’s heart I stab at thee!” shoving the length of his short blade at the kobold’s side. The shorter foe twisted aside, getting a superficial cut in return  and dodged the next three thrusts as well (<+1 to hit, Red 9) but his attention no longer on the dwarf.

Abraxis instead went after the kobold attempting to stab it’s crude knife into Wyn’s back, his shield leading the way. The wooden and iron edge blocked the stab and the Fighter’s sword slammed out from floor to ceiling, slapping the kobold back and opening its midsection wide open. It drew breath to scream and Abraxis slammed his pommel across its throat, silencing it. Bleeding and trying to block the ferocious blows raining down about it, (>+5 to hit, Blue 11) it was met with punishing steel (1d8+2 Dam, Blue 7: 9 Damage and killed!) and killed.

Wyn, giving Abraxis a nod of thanks, danced around with his kobold, knocking the thrusts aside with gentle flicks of his sword, or turning them away with well placed dodged and blocks. Driving the smaller foe ahead of him, Wyn growled low, “Yous kolbolds need ta learn one ting...” and brought his sword back and then straight in (>+3 to hit, Orange 20) and right through the kobold’s chest. “Ya don't mess with da elves!" (1d6+1 Dam, Critical, no roll, Max Dam: 7 and killed!)

Seeing which way the battle was going, Lyra took aim at the kobold fighting Brendon, loading a stone into her sling and spinning it over her head three times before letting it fly (>+2 to hit, -4 penalty, White 17) where it cracked against the kobold’s skull with a wet thwacking sound (1-3 Dam, White 4/2: 2 Dam) staggering the beast but not killing it.

The two kobolds still standing and able to fight plied their crude knives at Kovid (<+0 to hit, Steel 3) and Brendon (<+0 to hit, Steel 6) but neither one could score a hit.

(Initiative: Party Silver: 1, Kobolds Red/Black: 2, Kobolds win – New round)

The battle raged on and the Kovid continued to defend himself from the kobold before him (+0 to hit, Red/Blue: 11) with little issue, but Brendon caught a jagged slice against his midsection (+0 to hit, Red/Grey 19) that made him wince (1d4 Damage, Steel 1, Brendon take 1 damage).

As for the Paused kobold, it shook off the effects of the spell, looked around the room (>6 Morale: 2d6 White: 12) dropped its knife, screamed, and seeing little chance of survival, broke and ran towards the door of the room. Abraxis tried to trip it up (>Dex -4, Blue 15) but fear let it run around the fighter, and right towards Lyra who saw its feint and then leapt right, shield leading the way (=Dex -2, White 9) hitting the kobold and stopping it in its tracks.

Time is 11:08.

(OOC)

Three kobolds left. 1 with Kovid, 1 wounded with Brendon, 1 with Lyra.

Bottom of Round 2, Brendon took 1 hp of damage.
