The biggest shock to the group was to learn that Corfard the dragon actually leaves his lair area once in a while! He is a dragon and does have to drag himself through the halls as it is a tight fit, but he isn't just sitting there getting fatter. As one of the party members commented in the email, Corfard the Dragon would be the shittiest result on the Wandering Monster table.

TWO HUNDRED FORTY THREE
(I/C)
Lyra settled back, reaching in the barrel for a yellow bundle and then dropped her backpack on the closest chair. ”Well... let’s call it right now. In my opinion this is enough money and cake for me to safely say we can just leave this stupid castle and never come back.”
Shrugging, Brendon unbuckled his sword belt and slid his quiver off. “You know she has a point. We could just call it and leave this place and the dragon for some other fools.”
Giving the cleric a mocking stare and smacking his own thighs for effect, Lannis said, “Lyra the last thing you need is more cake…”
“Fuck you,” she replied with a frown, but still didn’t put the yellow bundle down.
Lannis continued with a disparaging finger, “And I honestly have no idea what the two of your are on about. If we leave now we forfeit the both the bounty AND any chance we have at a reputation as reputable adventurers. That aside, do you two frequently engage in days of back breaking work just to give up near the end?”
“No, but I’m just allowed to lose my shit now and again. It beats crying uncontrollably in the corner.” Lyra sighed. She fingered the elven chain briefly as she began sliding her own off. “As for the armor. Maybe... are you sure you’re not taking the armor Wyn? Think on it. If you don’t I will. I have been slowing down the party.”
Wyn nodded, "Priestess, I tink you should take de armor. If it help you be quicker en more able to smash de ass wit dat flail, den you should wear de armor dat best lets you smash de ass."
“Sounds good then.” She let her old armor fall to the side as she slid the much thinner and lighter elven armor instead. “So... are we kicking it here for the night? I think it’s getting a little late. I’ll call that corner over there if that’s the case. And I want some of that fucking cake.”
“Lannis and Kovid are fully healed,” the Scout offered, “and the rest of us could benefit from uninterrupted sleep.”
“Take your rest Brendon,” Lannis waved his hand imperiously, “and take your nonsense with you, leave reason to the land of the waking."
Wyn looked around and then got comfortable on one of the chairs. "I say we enjoy some good rations tonight, den leave de rest here till we ready to leave. I be taking a piece of de brown fer my meal tonight I tink... unless we all want to have a little party fer finding de vault, den we all eat de cake!"
“I’ll take a middle watch,” Lannis offered, “Gives the rest of you a chance to get some rest.”
"Oh... are we done for de day?” Wyn looked around frowning. “Hm... well I guess it can make sense now. We been going a long time today. Got much done. En de earlier we sleep, de earlier we get up."
Abraxas shook his head vigorously, "Amigos, we have an opportunity ahora. The enemies are divideds up. Some are on their way to search the floor primero. They will be gone. We overheard Calablartstas say that others THINK they are dead, and therefore are out of commission temporarimente. With all that I do not think ahora is el tiempo correcto for a rest. We should go out there while we have an advantage.”
Kovid disagreed, taking out 6 bundles from the elven ration stores and placing them on his person. “This castle is very big and we don’t know the space or size of the rooms and from the count, it’s pretty full as well. So we have this Catharandamus fella with a dozen and a half goblins and a few adepts in tow... a Duchess, a Grimtooth... and an unnamed Orc wandering around. Not to mention Mirabellis, her Cat, and who knows what else. Get a good nights rest folks.”
“And Corfard,” Brendon supplied.
The elf was nodding slowly, “Hmmm, maybe we catch some of de enemies sleeping tomorrow morning? Dat would be a good plan indeed.”
“Yeah, but, in ocho o diez horas, we won't know donde anyone is or in what condition. Pero, if you all want to rest, then I have no say.” Seeing the group was tired and not interested in pressing on, he sighed and leaned his Scythe against the wall before heading to the elven rations. “Ahora is our tiempo, pero if you all want to rest, then we rest. And I will take those bandages Señorita Lakira, and a piece of that Cake, Señor Landkiss.”
Giving the group a wide stare, Lannis asked, "Okay...does anyone know who he's talking to?"
“It’s easier to just nod your head if he’s looking at you when he says a name,” Kovid suggested. “And I’ll take the middle watch with Big Brain. The rest of you can get some real sleep.”
Unwrapping her meal and taking a bite, Lyra wondered, “Is anyone really going to find us behind 2 secret doors in a room no one has seen for 30 years?”
“Well thanks, Mister Ed!” Lannis pouted, “Now you know they will.”
"Priestess, how many bandages do you have? I cen not remember if it be 2 or 3. If 2, den you en Salazar should use dem. If 3... I would welcome de healing benefit dey cen provide."
“I have 3,” she answered. “Let’s finish eating and then I’ll take care of us.”
Before they had settled down to sleep, Abraxas picked up a handful of rocks and said, “Senorita Lysol, I throw rocks at you to see if your armor is majik, non?”
“I’ll help,” Lannis suggested.
“Not you,” she pointed at the wizard, “Just you. And not too hard, ok?”
“Like a lamb.”
“Or a pony,” Lannis suggested.
There was some tossing at her as she turned again and again and even though he was giving them a good lob it was obvious the armor was more resistant and resilient than originally expected. It took almost 15 minutes but Lyra seemed pleased. “Yeah. I could just feel the armor was blunting the blows a bit. I’ve been wearing chainmail for years and let me tell you, besides very light, there is something more to this set than just silvery elven links.” (Elven Chainmail +1).
The group had to rearrange the table and chairs a bit to make room for everyone but the room was big enough to do so and using bedrolls and backpacks to help them get comfortable, the group got ready to go to sleep, bellies full with elven rations, cake, and some of the sweet elven wine. Lyra and Abraxas were going to take the 1st watch, Lannis and Kovid, the second, and Wyn and Brendon the third.
So by the time 7:30 PM rolled around, Wyn commented, "Anyway... time for de rest...", and the party got comfortable and slowly fell asleep.
The Cleric and Fighter talked quietly for some time until about an hour later they heard some noise coming from behind the wall to the north where the Throne Room was. Motioning each other to be quiet, they could hear a heavy drag and rasping against stone and then the door opened with a bang. A deep voice and more heavy dragging followed, hard to hear clearly, but they did pick up, “I want them found…the arrogance…I cannot raise both of my lesser cousins…she’s gone?...no stone unturned.”
Lyra then felt weak and her holy symbol grew warm, a foul taste was tickling the back of her throat. The other side of the wall the deep voice intoned, “Tiamat. Mother...will for those who have been…back from the dead…blessing to you.”
She leaned over and sighed. “Felt the same way when Grilljax was raising the dead.”
“So we have dead snakes?”
“Don’t know. Sounded like just one? Maybe?”
“Tomorrow problem.” Abraxas frowned. “Dragon over there?”
“I think.”
“Then like the mouse we be.”
The heavy dragging sounded again and it got fainter and the door closed, but they could still feel something vibrating through the stones as it went away. “Fat assed dragon crawling through the halls,” she muttered.
The watch went on for another couple of hours until it was time (11:30 PM) to awaken Lannis and Kovid. They shared with them what they had heard and then went to sleep. The two of them walked around, reshuffled their packs, and chatted quietly for a time. Just a bit after 12, the floor shook and the entire castle seemed to quiver as if deep in its bones. It lasted some time, almost the better part of a minute before it slowly faded away.
“What the fuck was that?” Lannis asked.
“Don’t…know.” Kovid wondered quietly.
About ten minutes later they could faintly smell something on the air, like a burnt odor, but deeper and more cloying. “What the fuck are they burning?”
The dwarf fingered his lantern, currently off as they were using a slowburn candle for now. “I think they removed the oil room from the equation.”
“Well…shit.”
“Indeed.”
The watch came to an end (3:30 AM) and they awoke Brendon and Wyn who took over after getting a heads up on what had gone on. As for the two of them, there was no issue or problems that they heard and the group all woke up at 7:30 AM (Day 7) feeling great.
We broke our fast, studied and prayed as need be, and discussed what they had heard during the night and what the plan was this morning and where they were going to go.
Time now is Day 7, 8:30 AM
(OOC)
New day! New plans. I think 1 person took some of the elven rations on their person, but after we ate last night there are: 42 of the Green Vegetable Biscuit type and 22 of the Brown Meat Bread type. There is no more Yellow Cake type in the barrel. Everyone will be getting a new sheet as well that reflects the healing you had. Lyra, the bandages are marked (D) for dirty and will be unusable until cleaned in the sulfur water should the group want to dare going back to the 1st level. Good luck!
