FORTY THREE
(I/C)
As the battle raged on, Lannis was unstoppering a flask of oil and splashing it liberally all over the green slime trying to coat as much of the floor and walls as possible. From the stairs behind him he could hear crashing sounds as Lyra pulls the straps of her backpack free and let it fall. “Kovid!” She shouted. “Grab that!” Followed a moment later by her belt and scabbard and finally her shield and club. With a rock in one hand wrapped around her sling, arms pumping and a prayer to Aine on her lips, the templar hit the steps at two at a time. “Shit,” she cursed, “I didn’t expect the attack this fast.”
"THOR'S MUSCULAR MEAT, that burned my hand!” Kovid slowed down, picking up the Cleric’s dumped belongings and waving at her to run, lantern flashing. “Yes, Lady Lyra I will carry your things. Go give 'em hell."
As the battle filled the hall, Lannis finished the last of the oil and clapped his hands together with a burst of eldritch power…and a spray of sparks burst free raining in front of him and ignited the oil (1d8 damage burning oil, Pink 6 – and killed!) consuming the slime in a noxious cloud of choking gas and filling the corridor with waist high flames.
Abraxas finally was able to get a solid swing at the unfazed kobold (<+5 to hit, Blue 3) and although he drew slashes across the monster, it was unbothered by his swings and continued its assault.
The spellbound kobold was clearning its head and the other two were prepared to attack and still Brendon and Wyn held their shot, waiting for Lyra to finish coming up the stairs. In a crash of chainmail and gasping breath she hit the top, saw the flames, and both the elf and Brendon pointing down the hall yelling, “That one! That one in the skull mask!”
“I hope your goddess is listening, we really need to put that mother fucker down!” Brendon added.
With Aine’s power running through her, Lyra skidded around the corner, hand flung ahead of her, and called out, “Aine, please guide my hand to stop my foe in their place!” A burst of red energy sprung from her holy symbol and struck Grilljax in the back (>Save vs spells -2 penalty, Green 18) giving his steps a stutter but the kobold shaman was made of tough stuff and shook it off. It laughed as the effort.
Finally Brendon who had been holding his shot let fly. It arced across the battlefield (>+4 to hit -2 penalty guarded, Red 20, Critical, Max Damage 6) and buried itself in the shaman’s back! It screeched in pain and then Wyn fired (>+5 to hit -2 penalty guarded, Orange 15) and HIS arrow struck Grilljax as well! The shaman staggered (1d6 damage, Orange 3) but did not fall, badly wounded as the two guards each grabbed him by the armpit to keep him upright.
As they turned the corner Grilljax was snarling something in kobold and his body took on a yellowish glow that had Lyra groan (Cleric, no roll). “Aine blast it!”
“What,” Lannis asked.
(CLW, Head 1d6+1, Red/Black 6, Grilljax heal 7) “He just fucking healed himself!” The party could hear Grilljax and the two kobolds pick up their speed and run away to the east and out of sight.
Meanwhile Abraxas continued to fight the unflinching kobold, its strength a match for the burly fighter. It continued to pummel at him, chest barely heaving as it slammed again and again at Abraxas (>+4 to hit, Black 17). “Este Kobold tiene fuerza mucho. I will take care of him!” (Damage Deflection, <Str, Blue 14 – Half damage) He was hit again and again (1d8 damage, Red/black 5 – HALF damage round down – take 2 damage) but was able to shrug off some of the more terrible blows.
With Grilljax gone and the party fighting on, (Morale check 2d6, 9 failed) the two kobolds NOT engaged turned and tried to run while the one that was no longer paused stayed to fight Wyn. Although Abraxas was holding his own against the strong humanoid, he did manage to swing his sword wildly at the fleeing kobolds, (>+5 to hit -4 penalty damage deflection, Red/Blue 12) scoring a slashing hit on it, laying its back open (1d8+2 damage, Blue 1: 3 damage) and wounding it, but the kobold screamed in terror and ran off to the south with the other one.
Leaving the last one who was no longer under a spell compulsion to snarl in anger and jam its stone dagger into Wyn’s gut, blowing spittle everywhere (<+0 to hit, Red/black 12) and buffeting the elf but not doing any serious damage.
(Initiative Check: Party Steel 4, Kobolds Red/black 5)
Undaunted by its failure to hit the elf, the kobold redoubled its efforts and took to kicking and thrusting with its dagger, (>+0 to hit, Green/red 19) bruising Wyn (1d4 damage, red/black 1 damage) but little more. Abraxas was struggling to hold his own with the relentless kobold who still wasn’t fazed from the combat, only a few grunts coming out when it hit the fighter or was hit in return. It continued to beat at Abraxas (>+4 to hit, Grey/red 16) who used his shield to block as much of the blows as possible (Damage Deflection, <Str, Purple/Blue 7 – Half Damage) and still had to struggle to keep himself from being driven back, cuts and bruises blossoming all over his body (1d8 damage, Purple 5 – HALF damage rounded down – take 2 damage) as he fought on heroically.
From over the flames, Lannis and Lyra were barely able to make out the running figures of Grilljax and his two guards as they charged north up the corridor. But as Kovid was just about at the top of the stairs, they were able to make out the next two kobold’s forms at the end of the passage, one badly wounded and the other dragging him along with his outstretched arm.
Time now is 3:40
(OOC)
Terminator kobold has not been hit and is fighting Abraxas to a standstill – wounding the fighter with every blow. There is another kobold attacking Wyn. The Green slime in the hall has been burned away and Grilljax and the guards escaped north this round – but the one Abraxas wounded and the other one who ran can be seen dimly at the end of the hall through the flames (-5 to hit) and are currently in sight and it is the bottom of the initiative round. Flames will be here the rest of this round and start dying down next. Kovid you are here and can act this round.
Good luck!
