PBEM, Episode 89 - Kill Grilljax, There and Back Again

EIGHTY NINE

(I/C)
“Hey Grilljax,” Lannis taunted, drawing the Ishtari Rod of Bolts out, “Catch!” and hurled it forward. The magic flared (Drop 1 charge to 15, 1d3+1 bolts, Pink 1 – 2 bolts) and two large quarrels flew from the rod’s end (<+5 to hit, Pink 2..>+5 to hit, Pink 7) the first one slamming into his throne, but the second one pegging the blinded kobold in the chest (1d6 Damage: Pink 2) and kicking him back in his chair.

Brendon crossed the last of the space as quietly as he could (<Move Silently +20 bonus combat, Red 48) already deep in the shadows, and gripped the kobold by the neck, plunging his short sword (>+5 to hit, Red 7) into his back, hissing in his ear, “Snakes will always kill lizards. I hope the baby eggs are at least tasty!” He drew his blade free (1d6 Damage: Red 2 x2 backstab: 4 Damage) and stepped to the side again near the fountain.

Wyn who hadn’t seen Brendon until after he backed away, noted Grilljax was still alive (albeit in terrible pain and blind), and was screaming, “Gowan! Hilva!” while flailing about. Taking aim, the swamp elf drew back an arrow (>+5 to hit, Orange 17) and let it soar where it caught the Shaman just under his breastbone (1d6 Damage: Orange 6), the bastard unable to draw breath freely and fumbling about.

“Aine!” Lyra called out and let her sling swing (>+3 to hit, White 18) where a stone flew to crack against Grilljax’ skull (1d3 Damage: White 4 – 2 Damage and killed!!) and sprayed bone fragments and blood all over. “Fucking die!”

“Bravo Madre!” Abraxas roared, the unrelenting kobold he and Kovid had been fighting trying to get inside the bigger man’s guard. “No siree!” he growled and took a half step back (>+5 to hit, Blue 18) and hacked upward at the already wounded foe (1d8+2 Damage: Blue 4: 6 Damage and killed!) tearing its guts open and sending it to fall back against the wall dead.

“Let’s tag team the next one!” Kovid cried, spinning his hammer and ready to step forward (<Hear Noise, Yellow 1…Stonework Yellow 2) when he glanced through the door to see both statues of stone and crystal in the next room step off their plinth and bring their big stone swords up…and start walking towards the party! “Fuuufuufuufufufuckkk!!!!!” he roared, shoving past Abraxas and Wyn, reaching into the room as the statues approached with murderous intensity, grabbed the handle and dragged the door closed. “Statues! Alive!” he cried out as something HEAVY slammed into the door from the other side.

“Called it,” Wyn said with a sigh.

Pointing to the south door beyond the approaching stoic looking kobolds, Kovid suggested, “We can try to get through that door?”

“After this!” Abraxas roared, shield up and foot braced to receive the first assault from the stoic unrelenting kobold. It’s slight frame belied its tremendous strength as it hit the Fighter in the shield, turned it aside, and then proceeded to bash the warrior repeatedly (>+4 to hit, Black 15) causing Abraxas to stagger from the assault (1d8 Damage: Purple 5 – Damage Deflection: Str check Blue 11 – Reduced to 2 damage!) and curse out, “Madre, sonomabitch hits like Drogo!”

The second one finally cleared the press of sleeping kobold bodies and also took up position against Abraxas who had to split his defense between the two of them (>+4 to hit, Teal 9), barely able to stay ahead of them. Lyra though was the target of the third and final expressionless kobold as it crossed the room and proceeded to hammer the priestess as she held her shield up to ward off the worst of the blows. However the kobold was much stronger than her and too many of the punches translated to bruising (>+4 to hit, Red/Black 19) and battering for Lyra (1d8 Damage: Red/Black 3 Damage!) who found herself engaged in melee with the scrawny anklebiter.

“Help! Help please!” she called out as the door with the statues behind it shuddered from impact (Green 18, Red/Black 1 – structural damage – 5 to go) of their stone swords. (Initiative: Party Steel 5, Enemy Red/Black 2). As Lyra struggled to fight the unrelenting enemy in front of her (<Half Wisdom, White 5) she felt a pulse from her holy symbol, noted the slack facial features on the kobold, the oh so faint scent of corrupted flesh, and the arrow wound to the kobold’s chest from either Wyn or Brendon 2 days ago – sutured closed but not healed that she bared her teeth and squared her shoulders. “Aine’s Flowing Locks! Guys…they’re ZOMBIES!!!”

Time now is 7:46
(OOC)
Top of round 2. 2 crystal/stone statues beyond door (don’t know how to work knobs – just bashing it in), 3 K800/Zombies still to fight!
