PBEM - Episode 581. Wrapping it up.

FIVE HUNDRED EIGHTY ONE

(I/C)

As the party discussed options, bundling up in readiness for the coming rain, Wyn asked, “Anyone in de mood fer some wild game, too? Iffin de group wants some, Wyn try to find it.” He unstrung his bow for now to save the string, “Just let me know. Odderwise, water be de goal fer now.”

“Something to eat sounds good,” Lyra said after some discussion, “but we really should get some water. Maybe we split up in two or so groups? Try to cover some ground?”

“Let’s stay togedder.” Brendon shook his head and motioned that he’d walk point some distance. “H’okay. Let’s keep our eyes open fer de water sources, oui?”

"I think you should go do that, quickly,” the magic user groused, “so we can keep moving."

“Lannis keep your bitching to a low roar.” Brendon shouldered his pack and headed out, the party following behind.

Kovid called out to the Scout as he started to range ahead, “Hey Brendon, how do you catch a unique deer?”

“How?” he replied.

“Unique up on it!” Kovid guffawed, “Hahaha! Thor’s balls that’s funny.”

“If you say.” He sped up, making more distance between them.

“I got one more…”

“I don’t think he…or anyone else…wants to hear it, Fat Peter Jackson,” Lannis complained.

Nonplussed, Kovid continued, calling louder, “How do you catch a tame deer?”

“How?” Brendon shouted back.

“Tame way - unique up on it!” Kovid literally slapped his knee as he cried into his beard. “Hahahaha!”

We moved on, the miles slipping behind us. Even the inclement weather failed to put a damper on 5 of the 6 party members. Lannis was his typical morose self, grumbling again as we walked on. Abraxas tried to cheer him up, “Amigos, Specularum es so close, puedo almost smell it!"

“Smells like something died near here,” the Magic User complained. “Oh. Never mind. How you doing, Lyra?”

(Brendon Water: 2/10. Red 6 – no. Wyn Water: 2/10. Orange 2 – yes!)

It was more than half way through the day before Wyn came upon a small spring and alerted the party to it. We all came, brushing the rain out of our faces, and filled up our skins (4 days water). We then moved on (BX Hex Daily WMC: Red/Black 1. Yes! @ encounters 1d4: Red/Black 1. Random d8: Red/Black 4 – Animal. Random Animal table d12: red/Black 4 – are you fucking serious? Lol) but it was shortly before 3 that we saw in the distance a herd of (d6: 4) four 12’ tall grey skinned…Elephants.

“Does anyone else see dat?” Wyn asked.

“This is the stupidest place we’ve travelled to,” Lannis exclaimed, hand pointed at the distant pachyderms. “What the..is this even their correct habitat? Who’se running this moronic show here?”

“Let’s just move on,” Brendon muttered.

The group continued on, rain falling around them, watching the elephants as they trundled across the grasslands. Lyra looked wistfully at them but allowed herself to be guided further along until we were safely away. It was around evening when we set up camp and rested. The fire was slow to light and was smokier than we were used to, but the mood was still upbeat. Lyra spent a little time casting CSW on Kovid (2d6+2. White 4, 4. 4+4+2=10, Heal 10 (12 damage)) and then a CLW on him as well (1d6+1. White 3. 3+1=4, Heal 4 (8 damage)). Lannis scribed Infravision into his book from Mirabellis’. Abraxas made sure the party had food to go around and we set up watches before going to sleep.

(BX Hex Daily WMC: Red/Black 2. No) We rested without issue and in the morning, broke our fast and made ready to go. (Lannis heal 2 (0 dam), Lyra heal 4 (0 dam), Wyn heal 2 (0 dam), Abraxas heal 4 (0 dam), and Kovid heal 5 (3 dam). Brendon was at full) The poor weather from yesterday had faded but it was a bit cooler today. So we stayed bundled and trekked on.

(BX Hex Daily WMC: Red/Black 5. No) We saw game trail here and there, and the terrain was getting woodier as we went on. According to Kovid’s map, the dwarf felt we were 2 days tops from Kelvin’s Edge and were now out of the Dawnlands, somewhere in the wilds between the civilized Duchy and the elven homeland. We stayed alert but luck was with us as we moved on, having no encounters until we found a place to rest. It was an old hunter’s lodge and we spent a short time cleaning it up and getting it ready for us. Brendon reminded the group that we had stayed here almost 3 weeks ago coming out – nothing had changed and no one had been by during that time.

We once more ate, drank, and rested for the night. (BX Hex Daily WMC: Red/Black 6. No) (Everyone is at full!) And in the morning the day was clear and bright and we felt ready to go on. We each had 2 and a half days of water on us, Abraxas let us know we had 13 possible days of elven trail rations left, and it was 2 days or less to Kelvin’s Edge.

Time now is Day 18, 8: 30 AM

(OOC)

<2 days to Kelvin’s Edge at our current speed. We have just barely enough food and water to make it, barring any problems along the way. Push through or slow down and hunt and find water? Once at Kelvin’s edge you can arrange lodging, find a teamster heading to Specularum, or continue walking. But the goal is to get to Kelvin’s edge. From there, I’ll carry the group through to the end – meaning there is going to be a long end of it post very soon unless WMC craps in your hat (other than elephants!) on the last 3 possible checks.
